WWYD suspect cleaner of item theft

But can't be sure!

Went on holiday last year, we noticed a pair of teen DS tracksuit bottoms missing not long after, potentially left behind, Primark brand so not a huge issue. Fast forward a few months, his favourite pair of Adidas tracksuit bottoms have disappeared. Ive sorted mine and DH wardrobes out as well as checked the entire of DS room (he's older teen and doesn't have as much stuff for things to get lost in). I started to suspect the cleaner may have taken them as she has a son who is younger but it could just be one of those things.

Now I cannot find a pair of wireless headphones anywhere. Ive only had them about two months, bought for the gym and worn once then stored in one place until I may have moved them elsewhere. But cannot find them at all. Cleaner also has a preteen daughter when there were feminine.

I really don't want to accuse someone who may be innocent but can't see her up as the stuff is random things you'd take a while to notice were gone.

Instinctively, she's a nice woman so I wouldn't suspect her but there is no other explanation and we've never had this happen as much as we have these last six months of her being allocated to us. I'm quite organised so can easily pinpoint something put away and know where I would put things but none of these things seem to be in the house.

I feel awful in case I'm wrong. She is best friends with the cleaning company owner so I don't think she'd want to risk her friends reputation and equally I don't feel I could speak to the owner in confidence.

WWYD?!!

Update already!

I pulled something out of the cupboard I believed the headphones were in and found them caught on the back of it so I feel much better. Ive checked son's bags, wardrobe, underbed etc for his tracksuit bottoms but to no avail however despite his gf and her Mum saying they haven't found them at their house I can still put it down to them being left somewhere like there (and then maybe being misplaced and lost without them knowing) or perhaps he's changed somewhere and left them behind in a bag at school or something random.

You need to find a new cleaner ASAP and let the owner of the cleaning company know why if they ask for feedback.

GiveMeFiveMinutes · 07/05/2019 12:57

Please do NOT do what @QueenofCBA advised.

You have no proof that your cleaner is a thief. You have now found one of the missing items.

I sincerely doubt that your cleaner is risking her job and reputation for the sake of a pair of second hand primark joggers.

This reminds me of friends Grin

Completely agree with five minutes. I would be surprised if she would risk her job and friends reputation for a pair of primark joggers.

I lose stuff all the time but because I don't have a cleaner I have no one to blame but myself. I worked as an au pair once and the mother was sure I was stealing stuff. She thought I was taking items such as a pair of her knickers, her daughter's childish jewellery and loose change she had lying around. I took none of those things. I think her kids took her change for sweets and she just lost the other stuff. I was deeply offended to be accused and left the job. I would not confront your cleaner unless you're 100% certain. My kids are always leaving clothes at friends or relatives houses or I find them behind their beds, behind sofas etc. They just dump stuff everywhere.

Sorry, but you do not have to give your cleaner the benefit of doubt here, you are free to decide who you let into your house.
Of course you can’t report the cleaner to the police without proof, but if I was suspicious I would not let that person back into my house. The same applies to a conversation with the cleaner’s agent: Say that you don’t have proof, but at the same time you are under no obligation to continue with a cleaner you don’t trust 100%.

QueenofCBA · 07/05/2019 14:40

Just was your update Hmm
You’re obviously not as well organised as you think you are. So is it that you don’t trust the cleaner or do you just lose stuff?

justasking111 · 07/05/2019 14:45

DS had friends who were always leaving their stuff at our place and vice versa. Teenage boys are useless.

dreichuplands · 07/05/2019 17:02

It seems unlikely that the cleaner would risk her job over a pair of used primark joggers, obviously not impossible but unlikely.
