Labrynthitis or what?

On Saturday out of the blue I became very dizzy and started to be sick over and over. OOH told me to lie down and the dizziness went off and I was only sick if I moved.
OOH suggested labrynthitis and to see own gp on Tuesday.
Felt groggy and hungover Sunday but eating etc.
So last night I woke up and felt really dizzy and started to vomit again for about another 2 hours. I had tinnitus too.
Today I feel dreadful and still a it sick but dizziness has subsided.
I have obviously googled but their are so many different things it can be.
Anyone familiar with anything like this?

It sounds like labyrinthitis to me. Travel sickness tablets can help.

^ I'm not a medical professional BTW but that helped when I had it.

Could possibly be Meniere's disease. I suffer from that and tinnitus is a symptom. Do you feel any pressure in your ear, similar to when you're on a plane?

It sounds very similar to what I felt like when I had labrynthitis-its grim

DGRossetti · 06/05/2019 18:26

Well, here's a "what" Grin

I had it. It went away on it's own. If it hadn't. my GP said there were some exercises you can try to move the fluid around in the inner ear.

Distracting, but not serious ....

Cheers for replies.
The vomiting is so extreme. I literally cannot stop for a while. Is that what others have? Online people talk about nausea and vomiting but then say they are stil working etc. I couldn't even leave the bed.

Yes I have have on and off blocked and slight pressure feeling as well as some headaches with nausea.

Seeing gp tomorrow

I've had labyrithitis, just dizzy and very unsteady, though, no actual nausea. GP prescribed some meds which did help - Stemetil I think. Dh had had it first, so it must be catching!

I've had labyrinthitis twice,as has my Dd. Thankfully,I wasn't actually sick with it,although I felt sick. My Dd had awful sickness though, similar to what you have described. When I went to my GP,he did what he called 'the nystagmus test',which involved him moving a pencil from left to right in front of my eyes, gradually increasing the speed and observing my eyes movements whilst doing so. If you do have labyrinthitis, your eyeballs usually dart about in an uncontrolled way when this test is done. I also experienced a 'falling backwards' sensation if I closed my eyes and tilted my head back. When you lay down,do you feel as if you are still moving OP? This was another thing I experienced.
I had it for about 6 weeks on the first occasion, and only 3 weeks the second time, about 5 years apart. My Dd only had it for about 2 weeks on both occasions.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER. I don't think it is contagious. My GP said it isn't,and that it usually starts after an ear infection.

Ledkr · 07/05/2019 14:33

Go said labrynthitis so I'm going with that for now.
Hoping it will. Be straight forward so easy enough to get over.

Poor you, I have Meneires disease, another inner ear thing, which can make me really vomity.
Bucastem is an over the counter anti sickness pill which dissolves on your gum. A godsend for when you can't hold down anything.

I had labrynthitis about 10 years ago - post quite serious surgery a few days before , so 101 called an ambulance and A & E tested and observed until they were sure of the diagnosis ie had the tilt table test and kept taking my blood pressure. The paramedic on the way was right about it being labrynthitis.

I felt very nauseous but not actually vomiting - zero hunger. Felt like I was on a fairground ride, with the floor undulating underneath me. Sleeping very upright (many pillows) and sitting right as well was helpful. Travel sickness tablets help.

It wore off, but then had another couple of much milder attacks, which I was told can be part of the pattern. Nothing since, though. Nasty whilst it lasts, best wishes on a good recovery, OP.
