Would you have read mumsnet as a teen?

I often wish something like this had been around when I started dating, I think I would have saved myself a whole heap of grief
I'm thinking of the relationship section in particular, I've learned so much from it in the respect of red flags to look out for and having boundaries etc
At what age do you think it would be suitable to read for a teen given some of the subject matter?
I have a 14 year old dd who has her first boyfriend and was just sitting idly thinking about this, (avoiding cleaning)

God yes! Much as I read my Mum's Woman's Weekly in the early 80s!

It was my go-to for health and relationship information.

Thank goodness young people have a better source!

I read that too, along with Womens Own Smile

Probably not. Anything with the name "Mum" in it would have made me run in the opposite direction. Maybe something like "Teensnet" would attract me , but not MN.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 06/05/2019 12:40

Yes I spent full days on here while working in a call centre aged 19 😄 would definitely have spent time on here earlier had I known about it, learnt so much from this site.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 06/05/2019 12:42

Teensnet would be full of teens who think they know it all, though. Mumsnet has actually enlightened me about a lot of different stuff which is worlds away from my own life and broadened my mind.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 06/05/2019 12:45

Absolutely not. All teenagers know damn well mums know nothing. 😁

Tbf Mumsnet is full of adults who think they know it all. Not sure there's much difference 😂

BogglesGoggles · 06/05/2019 12:47

Yes. Mostly for the parking threads mind you.

Firefliess · 06/05/2019 12:48

Probably not unless I'd figured out my mum's username and wanted to know what she was posting about meGrin

I wish it had been around when I was in my early 20s though. It would have helped me realise what wasn't normal and wasn't ok about the relationship I was in.

darkriver19886 · 06/05/2019 12:49

Maybe... I was using mental health forums at 15. So maybe.

DelurkingAJ · 06/05/2019 13:28

No way. But my teen years hardly featured the internet (late 90s and lots of my friends parents didn’t have email until their DC got a uni account). If I were a teen now I think the word Mum would make me run (I never planned on having DC until I changed my mind in my late 20s).

I’m 21 now but I’ve been around since 18, I’ve learnt a lot here I’m not sure I would have picked up elsewhere. It’s helped me get the courage to get help with MH stuff as well. I do avoid the relationship board though, too many people making frustrating decisions I find

CriminallyCharmed · 07/05/2019 17:41

I've been lurking on MN from about 14, so yes. I've definitely learnt a lot of things that I wouldn't have otherwise known.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 07/05/2019 17:50

One of my ex-teens was a great fan of MN when she was still at school. She found the relationship threads v educational in teaching her what to avoid. Better than PSHE at school, I gathered.
