Best footwear for Universal/Disney?

Harrison376 · 06/05/2019 09:33

We’re going this time next year but thought I’d buy my footwear ready for this summer so they’ll be nice and broken in.

Any recommendations though? Walking sandals? Sketchers trainers? Fitflops? I’d like a balance between comfort and style. I’ll mainly be wearing shorts and t shirts during the day so I’m leaning towards lightweight trainers. Many thanks.

I wear walking sandals and last year lived in my Skechers go-walk sandals. I also had a similar pair by Jack Wolfskin, which were a bit less successful. I also found ordinary go-walks good. Trainers are good. Anything comfortable really.

Spaceunicorn6789 · 06/05/2019 09:41

The most comfortable shoes you can find. Forget looking stylish. We averaged 36k steps A DAY last time we went.

I wore sketchers most days - some sort of cooling memory foam stuff. They were ugly as sin but very comfy!

Sketchers! We all wear them around the parks and buy them out there as they are so comfortable they don't need to be broken in before so much walking.
In our experience all other trainers do rub first time around the parks unless worn beforehand. I wear Sandals in the evenings or to shopping but not for walking around the parks as I prefer to be comfortable.
We normally get a pair of go walks and trainers each and alternate them throughout the holiday. We still have pairs from our first trip that are going strong.
The outlets normally do a buy one get one half price. Children's Sketchers are also really inexpensive over there. Not sure about in England as we haven't brought any here.

yep decent comfortable footwear. Skechers and the like.

sod the style. no-one gives a shit what you look like.

Save looking pretty for the evenings :)

PoptartPoptart · 06/05/2019 09:47

I wore my crocs! Not the big ugly original design ones, but they do slip on sandal type shoes made of the same rubbery material. Very comfy.

Harrison376 · 06/05/2019 09:48

Brilliant, sketchers it is then-and your feet weren’t too hot in the trainer style? I quite like the idea of keeping my feet out of the sun too.

Great suggestion to switch to sandles out of the parks too, I’ll wear my summer dresses in the evenings so that’ll look better.

I had sketchers with the extra gel bits in. They were amazing.

Slightly fugly and can't sat I've worn them much since, but I walked on air in those parks.

Amazing

We're a boring household and go for trainers, socks, shorts, t-shirt, hoodie type outfits each with a day bag to hold water, battery packs, sun screen etc.

You see people tottering round in really high heels, and high fashion skinny ripped jeans, belts and strappy crop top things at these places, makes you wonder how they don't cry when they get home!

happymummy12345 · 06/05/2019 09:50

I wore trainers. It's a lot of walking, I've been twice. You want to be as comfy as possible

happymummy12345 · 06/05/2019 09:53

I wore trainers during the day for walking round the parks, and had flat ballet shoes for the evenings (we went back to the hotel, changed them went out to eat).

ValleyoftheHorses · 06/05/2019 09:53

Walking sandals. When it rains, it rains and trainers get soggy.

Eustasiavye · 06/05/2019 09:56

Comfort.
Forget style.
Nobody goes looking stylish , repeat nobody.
Wear shoes that will not come off on rides. I wore trainers and believe me, I never go for a night out in trainers or jeans.
Make sure your clothes are suitable to be thrown upside down in. When we were in Disney, a woman's top flipped up revealing her bra. There was hell on as she had been photographed on a ride like this. All the photos with her in were removed by Disney and they told all the people on the ride that the photos would not be available.
Also if you are going to the water parks wear only a good fitting swimming costume, do not wear a bikini. Men and boys wore boxers under their swim trunks too.

Hoppinggreen · 06/05/2019 09:57

I’ve got some Sketchers sandals, really comfy and you could wear them with dresses as well unless you wanted to look very smart

Redlocks28 · 06/05/2019 09:57

I wore Birkenstock’s last year and DD wore havaianas-we walked a LOT!

00100001 · 06/05/2019 10:20

your DD wore flip flops to a theme park???

they must be the worst as they are crap for walking long distances and will potentially fall off the rides etc.

OK maybe high heels/jelly shoes are worse.

but I wouldn't take kids in flip flops to a theme park personally.

cujo · 06/05/2019 11:33

Either trainers, or Sanuk flip flops for the days you’ll go on water rides. Either are total comfort for 20k+ steps a day.

Nothing worse than soggy trainers.

Hollowvictory · 06/05/2019 11:38

I wore fitflops and they were great. Took a couple pairs so can vary daily. I would not wear trainer style, too hot for me, but lots of people do

ChippyMinton · 06/05/2019 11:51

Trainers - the mesh type fabric is cooler than leather.

Sandals - leather lined, the fewer straps to rub the better. Also spray deodorant on your feet to reduce slipping.

Take rolls of moleskin plasters to stick on your feet or on the shoes to prevent blisters.

At Universal we designated a morning to do the wet rides, dressed in quick dry fabrics/swimwear and swapped trainers for flip flops before getting on the rides.

hopelesslyromantic93 · 06/05/2019 11:58

I lived in birkenstocks and trainers! You just need to be comfortable and make sure you've worn the shoes in well.

CaptainHammer · 06/05/2019 13:17

Whatever you find most comfortable. We’re here now and doing around 24k steps daily on average.
I can’t wear trainers as they get too hot for me. I find Crocs or Sanuks flip flops the best. Sanuks take ages to dry though so I tend to stick with crocs.
DH prefers Hey Dudes or Sketchers.

BellaBellaBelle · 06/05/2019 13:35

Another one for flip flops too, way too hot for me too wear anything else. Supportive comfy ones that have been worn before.

Trick is to take them off and sit on them on the rides Wink

Babyfoal · 06/05/2019 13:36

Skechers

mmgirish · 06/05/2019 13:37

I wore fitflops
