If you wear Ugg boots indoors...

What would you think if your DH wore some at home? Are they gender-neutral enough for chaps to wear in the privacy of home? Wink

The other day when we were both in Schuh, I saw my DH eyeing up some Ugg boots: not the slippers, but the actual boots. I asked him why, warning him not to buy them for me (I don't like the way they look, and I wouldn't wear them outdoors), but he said he liked the idea of wearing them himself at home, to keep his feet warm.

I have to admit that my first thought was Shock, as I've never seen anyone male wearing them, but what would you think if your DH suddenly wore them indoors, instead of slippers, especially given how expensive they are?

I don't care what he wears to keep his feet warm but he's not spending that much on a pair of slippers!

uggs were originally designed for Aussie surfers (male and female) because sheepskin is cosy after being in the water.

DS1 had a pair when he was still in his buggy to keep his ankles warm in winter. DP has a pair for in the house, and DD and I have a couple of pairs as slippers and for outside.

They are completely gender neutral imo, and they were designed to be in the first place. They may be ugly but they're bloody comfy!

My Australian dh has been wearing uggs indoors as slippers for as long as I have known him, decades before they became known in the UK.

I got my DP a pair of slipper boots from asos. They're mens ones. Probably the most used thing ive ever got him and a hell of a lot cheaper than uggs

MrsMozartMkII · 06/05/2019 08:08

If it made my DH happy then I'd say crack on lad, get what you want and can afford then wear them where the heck you want.

ObtuseTriangle · 06/05/2019 08:08

Yep Aussie DH, bare feet in summer, UGG boots in winter and thongs when he has too.

concernedforthefuture · 06/05/2019 08:08

They're a bit clunky of sole to use as slippers. Celtic & Co do the most amazing sheepskin slippers that would be much better. They do mens' ones too

My teenage ds wears them in the winter.

pinegreen · 06/05/2019 08:20

Totally normal, Aussie DH has two pairs. No one in Australia would wear them outside though, they are strictly inside shoes.

Mominatrix · 06/05/2019 08:24

Totally normal. I but them for me and the children to wear inside the house. Wouldn’t be caught dead with them outside though.

PaperHead · 06/05/2019 08:29

DH has a pair of the Celtic and Co sheepskin boot slippers linked above. Which are pretty much Uggs.

feduuup · 06/05/2019 08:55

They'd be too hot and clunky for slippers in my opinion, perhaps I jump onto the sofa too much during the day but I'd be forever pulling them off. If he wants something warm and cushioned (and cheaper) get him to look at north face slippers.

YemenRoadYemen · 06/05/2019 09:53

Ugg boots (boots) are slippers, and shouldn't be worn outside, as far as I'm concerned.

feduuup · 06/05/2019 10:04

I get that they are slippers, maybe that works in large open plan houses with hard flooring, but I don't think they'd be very comfortable in the majority of British houses, personally.

Laniakea · 06/05/2019 10:30

Yes definitely indoor shoes. We don’t have a big house but it has hard floors downstairs & is draughty - Uggs are perfect, they last so much longer than cheaper versions (I’ve had two pairs in 15 years & wear them daily). If my dh decided to wear them indoors I’d rejoice as he currently uses an old pair of rigger boots as slippers which is fairly revolting.

letsgomaths · 06/05/2019 11:49

Ah, I thought it might be a resounding "no" on here to the very idea of a husband in Uggs! I've seen so many threads condemning them, but mostly wearing them out and about, and outdoors I've only seen them worn by women. I'll see if he does buy himself a pair, or I'm feeling generous I'll get him some for his birthday.

I remember being surprised in the 90's in my university hall of residence: the huge fluffy animal-shaped slippers were very popular, with both the boys and the girls; lots of dinosaur and monster-clad feet would be seen in the dining room at meal times. Perhaps nowadays the lads are stomping the corridors in Uggs!

Uggs are indoor shoes.

FFSFFSFFS · 06/05/2019 11:51

I'm Australian - the land of the Ugg.

I think its very weird to wear them outside and outside Ugg wearing is not common in Australia even in winter.

Uggs are totally unisex.
