Rental Deposit

I paid a rental deposit when I moved into my current property over 2 and a half years ago. It is a private landlord and this is their only property that they rent out. I had an original 12 month tenancy and I am now month to month.

I am moving at the end of the month. I gave my notice in writing (posted it personally through their door) and asked that they let me know which deposit scheme the deposit was in. So far I haven't heard anything.

Since then, I have checked the three schemes and nothing can be found with the details I have given which leads me to believe it has not been protected. I have never received a certificate.

How would you approach this? I move in just move three weeks. At what stage would you bring it up again? I'm not expecting it back until they inspect the property when I leave but I'm concerned I might not see it again...

Have you not been able to speak to the LL since you gave notice?

I would try hard to speak to them to get confirmation of whether or not it's been protected...then I would apply to the county court to get it sorted out.

If landlord doesn’t acknowledge you or pay back the deposit then it’s small claims court

If they haven't protected your deposit, I'm pretty sure you're entitled to claim for compensation? Though I don't know specifics so could be wrong.
I'd give it until 2 weeks before
But they'll probably be in touch with you as they'll want to do viewings for the property presumably?

Court - rookie error on their behalf - it is possible that you now get triple the amount back.

They live on the same street as us but I haven't seen them to speak to since I posted the notice through. My intention was to hand deliver it and I was sure someone was in, but no one answered.

I find these sorts of conversations really awkward and feel a bit anxious about it.
