Spotty scalp - what shampoo to use?

Hi all

Over the last few weeks, I have developed a spotty, itchy scalp. This is quite new for me so I wondered if I had headlice. However, I check the children every week and have gone over my hair with a nit comb and conditioner repeatedly and not found any sign so I don’t think it is that.

I may need to change my shampoo. Is there any that you would recommend? I’ve added some Head and Shoulders sensitive to the supermarket online shop but am wary of buying anything more expensive in case it doesn’t work. If you have any recommendations, please could you let me know?

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I have been used Kiehl’s avocado oil shampoo. I have used this for quite a long time and like it a lot - it’s only recently that my scalp has got so spotty. It’s quite possible that it’s hormonal rather than anything to do with my shampoo.

Do you use any styling products?

I find straightening balms like frizz ease or similar give me a terribly spotty and itchy scalp.

I use it sparingly and try not to get it right to the roots

I’d go sulphate and silicone free, something like Faith in Nature.

No, I just wash and condition and then leave my hair to dry naturally.

have you tried shampoo with teatree in it?

I'd recommend Neutrogena T Gel Therapeutic shampoo with coal tar extract - I had the same problem and it cleared the spots and itching up within a week! I now use it every three washes or so. The bottle lasts a while that way.

I had the same and alternate between Espa shampoo and conditioner and body shop banana shampoo and conditioner.

Avoid conditioner next to the scalp just put it on the ends.

Another fan of tea tree Faith in nature shampoo.

Are you rinsing properly after conditioning? Mine gets a bit like that if I wash it in the shower instead of the bath as I have such thick hair that the shower water doesn't penetrate it well enough. Cleared up practically overnight since I started washing it in the bath instead and actually submerging my head to rinse it.

A bit odd, but I was considering a shampoo change recently when my scalp got worryingly itchy (I used the lice comb a few times...), patchy, and spotty.

I had it recommended me to mix a handful of sugar and enough oil to just cover it in a small tupperware container and using it to exfoliate my scalp by just rubbing in into it before showering. It was a bit weird and am normally not a fan of these sorts of DIY beauty things, but as I had the granulated sugar and sweet almond oil in my cupboard I figured it was worth a shot until I went to the shops. I learned where I seem to struggle to rinse properly due to being able to feel the sugar and it somehow really helped my scalp the first time. After a couple times, my scalp feels better than it has in ages and I don't really need to do it regularly. Still find it odd and awkward, but it worked well so passing it on in case this weirdness helps someone else.

Thanks all, I’ll check out these recommendations.

I started using Body Shop ginger anti dandruff shampoo for the same reason. 3 weeks of using and the difference is amazing.

Remembered this thread and searched for it. Mine isn't psoriasis, nits, ringworm, dandruff etc but I get spots and then cant stop rubbing or picking them any suggestions? Scratch mitts? 😂
