If you could choose the last piece of music you would hear before you die, what would you have ?

Assuming you're not on Death Row or about to be flattened by a bus...

Anyway, I'd go for either Meditation from Thais by Jules Massenet, or Yoda's Theme by John Williams. They're both very serene and of much depth. The perfect musical accompaniment to slipping away quietly🙂.

1492: Conquest of Paradise by Vangelis. Not serene but a really nice piece of music.

MidnightLavender · 05/05/2019 19:44

Don’t Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult!

Nnnnnineteen · 05/05/2019 19:47

Barber's adagio for strings, you got the love by candi staton or homeward bound by Simon and garfunkel. Actually loads, because music makes me happy, but those stick out.

Build me up Buttercup the Foundations

squashyhat · 05/05/2019 19:47

Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd

Snapespeare · 05/05/2019 19:49

In my life - Beatles.

I have some kick ass tunes planned for my funeral; doctor who theme song for people to take their seats, the red flag during ceremony, (& jump around) the lark ascending as I descend/ am curtained out. Bach cello to leave chapel.

Pretry · 05/05/2019 19:49

@Nnnnnineteen good choices. Wasn't homeward bound written at Crewe station?

BrigitsBigKnickers · 05/05/2019 19:49

Theme and variation on a tale of Thomas Tallis ( Vaughan Williams) Bach double violin concertante and Chopin piano concerto no 2- slow movement.

Saisong · 05/05/2019 19:50

Chopin' s 'Raindrop' sonata

barbiegrl · 05/05/2019 19:50

Songs that my son has written for me. He is an aspiring musician and for my birthday for the last couple of years he has written music for me :)

longnight · 05/05/2019 19:51

Diamond eyes by shinedown its also what I want played at my funeral.

Iambuffy · 05/05/2019 19:51

Bach variations by yo yo ma

OldAndWornOut · 05/05/2019 19:51

How soon is now by the Smiths, maybe.
Depends what kind of mood I was in, I think.
What frame of mind.

LittleAndOften · 05/05/2019 19:52

Elgar's cello concerto 2nd movement. It speaks to my soul. Its glorious and heartbreaking all at once.

For a completely different, uplifting and exhilarating mood it has to be the Theme from Spartacus by Khachaturian. I love the sea and this piece encapsulates that feeling like nothing else.

And yes I'm romanticising, but you're talking about death, so I'd want to be utterly transported, and these pieces both do that.

oneforthepain · 05/05/2019 19:52

Doesn't it depend on the kind of death you're experiencing?! Frightened, lonely, calm, in pain, angry...

Or do you just mean the perfect piece of music you want to be the last music you ever hear?

I think slipping away quietly feeling serene is a creation of the movie industry.

dudsville · 05/05/2019 19:53

The music we had during the memorial for my uncle's funeral. It's uncommon asks i don't want to share it here, but when i heat it i see the pics of my family roll before my eyes.

Finfintytint · 05/05/2019 19:54

Played Sailing By for mum at her request during her last moments and she also requested it it at her funeral. Shipping forecast theme, just beautiful.

Whisky2014 · 05/05/2019 19:54

Nothing else matters by Metallica. S&M version

Sirzy · 05/05/2019 19:54

Hello by Martin solevig just because it triggers such happy memories

user1471453601 · 05/05/2019 19:55

I would choose just to hear music again. Any music, or even just a voice, any voice. Being deaf is the loneliest thing I've ever done.

Flamingosnbears · 05/05/2019 20:00

Faith Evans I'll be missing you

bookworm14 · 05/05/2019 20:00

Berlioz’s Grande Messe des Morts.

haverhill · 05/05/2019 20:02

Oh user Sad.

I’d have variations on Tallis by Elgar, or Orgasm Addict by the Buzzcocks - may as well have a laugh on your way out.

Lisette1940 · 05/05/2019 20:07

User I'm so sorry to read that. I'm hard of hearing and I'm glad of the muffled stuff I do hear.

With hearing aids in, I'd like my last music to be Dvorak's Nocturne. It's just beautiful.

I'd like the Cantique de Jean Racine by Faure as a choral work either.

Gingercarrier · 05/05/2019 20:08

The La's 'There She Goes.' Having it at my funeral too.
