When did this become a thing..?? From 1pm all our local Facebook groups have been full of pics of the massive queues outside the city centre bars, places charging £14 to get in, friends of mine on facebook "Yay, May Day Sesh….!!!"

When did this become a thing..? Is it a thing everywhere..?? Is it just in Aberdeen...???

As an English person now living in Scotland I totally agree that we don't 'do' BHs up here in the same way. That said I'm currently trying to drink as much Prosecco as my body can handle, safe in the knowledge that I'm off tomorrow 😄

In the late 90s in yorkshire and lancashire people went day time into night time drinking on bankholidays

I have lived all over and I love a bank holiday daytime sesh but only on the Sunday nowadays - Mondays are for the hangovers. Also most of the BH's fall when the weather starts to get better.

When I was a teenager (about 16 years ago) it was £1 a drink in bars in the local town on bank holiday Sundays. So it was a ‘thing’ here then.
We went out for Sunday lunch today in a fairly posh hotel, I ordered a large wine and the waiter said ‘go for it, it’s a bank holiday’ Grin

Historically this was definitely a thing because the peasants were given free ale. Along with maypole dancing and promiscuity.
