What would it take for you to become vegan?

A genuine question after a conversation some friends and I were having. They said that they'd become vegan if the ready meals and prepackaged vegan meals were cheaper. It got me thinking, are there any conditions under which you would consider veganism and if so, what are they?

Absolutely nothing would make me go vegan. Nothing.

Aquamarine1029 · 05/05/2019 13:16

No.

PinkHeart5914 · 05/05/2019 13:16

If bacon, cheese and delicious chocolate weren’t available for sale.

Don’t get me wrong some vegan dishes etc are nice but it’s not for me

No conditions. It looks hardcore!
I would be willing to give up meat but not fish/ seafood/ cheese/ eggs/ dairy.

Cattenberg · 05/05/2019 13:18

I would like:

Vegan halloumi
Vegan chocolate made with coconut milk
Vegan French toast.

slipperywhensparticus · 05/05/2019 13:18

If I had to kill my own food I would be veggie but as I'm intolerant to many vegan subs going vegan is not for me

DramaAlpaca · 05/05/2019 13:19

Nothing would make me go vegan. Going vegetarian I might consider, but not vegan.

skippy67 · 05/05/2019 13:20

I would never go vegan.

maxinespalour · 05/05/2019 13:20

I'm a strict veggie, have been since I was 12 years old but for me to be vegan, cheese and milk chocolate would need to disappear from earth Grin

Aprilladvised · 05/05/2019 13:20

I came on to say nothing but actually if I was so rich I never had to budget for food shopping and had an imaginative cook to do all the work then I would happily be vegan.

feduuup · 05/05/2019 13:20

Lobotomy?

Nosunnofun · 05/05/2019 13:21

If there was absolutely nothing else available.

vampirethriller · 05/05/2019 13:21

Nothing

SneakyGremlins · 05/05/2019 13:21

A lobotomy.Grin

No issues with anyone being vegan at all, it's just not for me Smile

crosser62 · 05/05/2019 13:22

Health for me.

I could see my waistline expanding, I’m the wrong side of 50, I know that diabetes and heart disease was on the horizon, I know that multiple medications were also one answer or the alternative which was to take control.
So a year ago I decided to go plant based fully.
It’s not expensive, it’s not particularly difficult... unless eating out with friends.
Choice is very limited.

It’s fine.
I’m still fat mind. Blush

Tanfastic · 05/05/2019 13:22

If everything non vegan suddenly became unavailable. Then I'd probably starve Confused

SimonJT · 05/05/2019 13:23

I’ve always been a vegetarian, but for me it was the treatment of dairy cows that I didn’t like.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 05/05/2019 13:23

Every single animal would have to simultaneously drop dead for me to start considering it (and even then I'd be giving DH side-eye and imagining him as a delicious roast chicken).

merle1990 · 05/05/2019 13:23

Nothing... it's not for me.

LizzieMacQueen · 05/05/2019 13:24

Yes, agree with above. I would if someone else was responsible for preparing all my meals and they were tasty.

And if going vegan is to save the planet, surely we should discourage the idea of more ready meals - and their non-recyclable packaging.

Alarae · 05/05/2019 13:24

If my family was going to be killed if I didn't.

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 05/05/2019 13:25

No kids and no husband around.

I’ve just started doing a eat vegan for 4 days a week thing. It’s ok.

I’ve swapped milk for oat milk (that’s a permanent change). In all honesty it’s not as good as cows milk but it’s pretty good.

I don’t miss meat all that much, don’t even eat that much on my 3 none vegan days.

I made a vegan lasagna - really missed the cheese sauce. Soya white sauce really isn’t that good.

I totally get people not completely switching to vegan but doing one or two days a week vegan is no great hardship. I’ve quite enjoyed it and I lost 5 pounds.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 05/05/2019 13:25

An egg substitute that is exactly the same as an egg. Just can’t give up a runny yolk.
Also a milk substitute that tastes the same as milk. I would never think to drink a glass of milk but substitutes make my tea and coffee taste gross.

Other than that, I’m basically already vegan!

Diet wise I mean. Veganism is a giant thing isn’t it - clothes, home products, makeup products, furniture etc all needs to be animal-free.

pink412 · 05/05/2019 13:25

Nothing. Even if it shortens like life my a few years

JoinTheDots · 05/05/2019 13:26

I cannot imagine a situation where I would be vegan, unless I was told I would die if I continued to eat meat.

Happy to reduce my animal produce intake in order to help the environment and my health, but not willing to cut out all animal products entirely.
