If so, what are your thoughts?

Would you recommend?

Yes, it's fantastic, we've got a spear & Jackson, and got a Bosch for BIL (it had a spare battery and he has a bigger garden).

So much less faffing!

We’ve got the Spear and Jackson one that costs about £159.00 in Argos. I say we, but I’m not the lawn mower in the family - I do the ironing, he does the mowing.
OH has been well impressed (despite the fact that he initially put the handle on the wrong way). Apparently the battery has plenty of life in it to mow our two smallish sized lawns and it cuts the grass well. When I was holding it to help with the assembly issues it seemed quite heavy to me but he hasn’t mentioned this as an issue.

This Greenworks lawnmower is the one I bought.

It comes with two batteries and a charger. Our garden isn't very big so I can cut the lawn at least twice on one battery. It isn't worth having a petrol mower for our garden. I don't hate mowing the lawn now as it makes the job so much easier without the cables. It also works well on damp grass.

My experience is nothing like those of the customers who only gave it one star, so I think they must have faulty models.

According to Which? the Aldi cordless one is OK, just OK. They reckon it is worth spending more to get a better mower. Although they only rated my mower at 62%, but I find it does the job very well in my garden.

Apparently it's to do with the air/oxygen getting to the petrol every time you expose it to it. He did go into more details about what happens but I wasn't listening that much.

We've had a Bosch Rotak cordless mower for years and years. Love it! None of that faffing with extension leads or tripping over cables. And it's fairly light - light enough to hand the job over to my teenage DCs. Grin

It's also very low maintenance - we just empty the cuttings, give the blades a quick scrape and shove it back in the garage till the next time.

Yes Qualcast mower and strimmer both battery powered . Had for 3 years highly recommend, worth the price bought from Homebase. Saves me so much time and very good at tackling overgrown grass

marvellousnightforamooncup · 06/05/2019 18:42

We've had a Bosch one with rechargeable batteries for about 12 years now. Still going strong.

Petrol mower here but I just cannot pull the start cord hard enough to get the thing going, no matter how hard I try. Makes short work of the grass though

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 06/05/2019 20:52

I think it’s unlikely in a sealed jerrycan that the petrol wouldn’t last the season and you’re likely to refil it more than that.

LaganOnABubble · 06/05/2019 20:53

New one arrived and was used tonight - made short work (geddit) of the front and back grass, was quick and easy to use and did both with juice left to spare in the battery. Very happy with that generally.

My petrol motor has an electric start button. No effort required. It also has a “drive” motor, so it pulls itself along. Again no effort. All I have to do is follow it and steer. I love it so much!

Yes, for last 3 years mowing the lawn has been a breeze.

BritInAus · 02/03/2021 00:54

Ryobi cordless here - fabulous. Battery lasts gardens easily - 500sqm property with only a small house on that space, so a far bit of lawn.

BarbaraofSeville · 02/03/2021 07:54

Glad you like it OP. Next time we need a lawnmower, I'm definitely going to make the switch to cordless. Obviously that means that our current electric one is going to last forever Hmm.

Our first one broke after about 8 years and I looked then but they seemed vair expensive (around £300?) and I didn't want to pay that much as I wasn't sure it would be any good, but I think they've come down in price over the last few years.

DP bought battery powered hedge trimmers last year and is happy with them and they use the same batteries as his drills - in this case Makita, so I'm going to look at these first as you can make a big saving if you just have one or two batteries and use them on multiple tools.
