Can anyone recommend something to tame DD's wild hair

Dd (5) has hair that is neither curly nor straight, I have to brush it to get the tangles & knots out but by brushing it it seems to take out any of the natural curl & leaves it looking like a giant ball of frizz.

Can anyone recommend something I could put on probably after brushing to leave to pony tail part looking less wild?

Or if there's a different method I should follow after washing maybe? Tbh it looks fine after washing on an evening it's when I brush it on a morning that the giant frizz ball appears.

I was thinking of a curl cream of similar but having had poker straight hair since the year dot I don't really know where to start.

This is my hair. Please don't brush it. I NEVER brush or comb my hair - I don't own either a brush or a comb. I run my fingers through it when I have conditioner in and that's it.
You can encourage the curl through serums. Don't ever towel dry/rub it. Just let it dry naturally with some serum from half way down the head. Alternatively - I have tightly French plaited it whilst it's wet and left it to dry and it is AMAZING when I take it out after a day - - or two--

Do not brush curly hair when dry. Use a leave-in curly conditioner spray. Use a tangle teaser when necessary. Do not use shampoo (only conditioner when washing - also known as co-washing).

Moroccan hair oil - leave in overnight will solve this for sure.
It’s expensive but will last 6 months a bottle.
It smooths the hair and will stop this

Use an afro comb and comb gently.

Children’s Farm do a lovely leave-in detangler spray (I use it for my curls!)

I agree comb when wet and spray some detangler/leave in conditioner.

This is my daughter’s hair - so very tight curls - but the principle is the same: never brush. Only comb when wet.

Every two days, I spray her hair with a conditioner and water combo just using a spray bottle from Superdrug. Wide tooth comb. Even using a wide tooth comb, I can her hair into smooth pony tails.

My son has comparatively straighter hair but still basically curly. It would probably be similar to your DD’s if it was long. I still only use conditioner on all of them.

Never shampoo. Never brush. Only use conditioner and only comb when wet.

If you use a Tangle Teezer make sure you do underneath the hair as if it's thick hair the brush won't go through and you could end up with the underneath a mass of knots.

It needs a good cut as well!
