Name this French crispbread from the 80s

My gran used to buy crispbread when it was first popular back in the 80s. It had a French name, beginning with a B.

I think it might have been called something toast.

Me and my sister used to love it, anyone else remember?

Melba Toast???? I know it doesn't start with a B but there is one in there!

ssd · 04/05/2019 22:32

Melba toast, defo

MorrisZapp · 04/05/2019 22:33

No I do remember melba toast, but this was a French name. Almost certainly beginning with a B. We used to joyfully mangle the pronunciation :)

You can still get Dutch crispbreads. My friend served them up as snacks when I was round at her place last week. They are lovely with that Seriously Strong cheese spread.

Belin is a French brand that does all kinds of crackers

Dutch Crispbakes were the first things that sprung to my mind, missmouse.

I'll have a think about the French crispbreads - any visual or size description to help us, OP?

MarthasGinYard · 04/05/2019 22:38

Were they round Op

Stacked and Packed in a paper packet

I'm thinking Dutch cridpbread thingies

RomanyQueen1 · 04/05/2019 22:38

I remember it, but can't think of the name, so sorry. it was a bit sweet iirc, better with sweet topping than savoury.
Was more like sweet toast.

Not exactly per your OP, but you're not thinking of Phileas Fogg's Mignons Morceaux, are you?

ChicCroissant · 04/05/2019 22:56

Oooh, loved those as well zebra!

ssd · 04/05/2019 22:59

Bryvita! :)

I think they were shaped like very small slices of bread and packed three levels high in a paper type packet. The French flag featured in the design.

I loved the loose, crusty ones too but they were called something else.

Energen is the only other one from that era that I recall.

MorrisZapp · 04/05/2019 23:17

Mignon Morceaux were amaaaaaazing.

But its not them. Its a basic, white, slightly sweet crispbread. We used to demolish the whole packet.

Heudebert are shaped like bread slices. And might be fun to say.
Did your granny buy these mythical crunchers from France, or from UK?

MorrisZapp · 04/05/2019 23:28

Heudebert! I'm sure that's it!

Sorry, it doesn't begin with a B :) But it has 'bert' in it.

Happy days!
