Is this a normal reaction? I can't remember my other two having anything like this

I don't remember seeing that kind of reaction with mine. These things always happen at Bank Holidays too! I'd call NHS24 if it hasn't gone down by the morning.

I don't know what they say is 'normal' but my ds has his boosters this week and he had a tiny pinprick, no redness or anything at all. I'd ring the nhs helpline. Could it be that he's had a reaction to the tape they use to hold the cotton wool on rather than the jab itself?

Not with the kids but when I get my flu vaccination my arm often goes like this so it wouldn’t worry me personally. Usually goes down after 24-48 hours. Are they ok otherwise?

Try finding an open pharmacy is you are worried, they can give good advice and will avoid the nightmare of out of hours on a bank holiday weekend.

Was it the DTP? This is a known reaction to it, especially the pre-school booster.

DD reacted like that to her DTP. Her whole upper arm swelled up and the area around the injection site went very red. Took her to the GP and they gave her antibiotics just in case.

My daughter had a similar reaction, although it didn’t look quite as ‘angry’ as your ds’s. It lasted a few days. We did seek advice from our GP but in my dd’s case it wasn’t anything to worry about.

It's spread even more now

I was told anything over the size of a 50p needs checking.

Practice nurse here and my ds has the same reaction. It needed a course of antibiotics. I just emailed the GP and attached a photo and she sent the prescription to the pharmacy. As it's the bank holiday weekend though I'd go to the out of hours/walk in because it's spreading. Untreated it can get pretty nasty.
