Anyone have a midsleeper bed?

What age are the kids? Are they worth it?

Thanks

DS1 (now 7) has one - from memory he moved up into it when he was 4.5 which is younger than recommended, but as he’d never fallen out of his toddler bed and the midsleeper we chose has a high rail, and a desk (so wouldn’t be a straight crash to the floor) we took the risk. I did put a mattress on the floor underneath for a bit to be doubly safe but it was never needed.

He adores it. It’s mildly annoying to change the sheets but the extra storage space is well worth it.

Dd had 1 for a few years from around age 4 to 11ish I think. They are a pain to change the bedding, they are no good for getting out of in a hurry for the toilet, to be sick, when you have a nose bleed, etc. We got rid of it when dd broke her ankle and couldn't get into it as she couldn't climb the ladder

Thanks both

Yes my daughter has one. Age 6 now. Went into it age 5.

animaginativeusername · 04/05/2019 21:05

Yes, worth it. My son started sleeping in his aged 5 years. He loves it. His has storage and pull out desk.

Fantasisa · 04/05/2019 21:07

My DS has had one since he was 3. The only thing I find a bit sad is that I can snuggle in next to him when we read at night. So we either do it in my bed first or I stand next to him.

orangejuiced · 04/05/2019 21:09

Yes, my two have them. Only way to fit beds in their rooms with some storage too! They love them. Started using them age 4, no problems.

Fatted · 04/05/2019 21:10

I put my two in a bunk bed when they were 4.5 and 2.5. We needed the room. It has a good sized guard around the top.

Like other OP have said, it's a fucking pain in the arse changing the top bunk, or getting DS out of his bunk if he needs to in a hurry in the night. But we needed the space in their room so I put up with it. If I wasn't in desperate need for one, I wouldn't.

Second, third what others have said.

All ours have some variation on the theme. Makes more space, gives a spare bed for sleepovers. All brilliant.

Downsides mainly when they are poorly. Difficult to give a cuddle, help etc. Sheet changing is fine. Mine do it themselves.

SecondHandTicking · 04/05/2019 23:09

Age 5 and in it still at 10. It had storage underneath initially to maximise floorspace, and now it has a blackout den underneath which he likes (he is autistic).

It's mildly annoying but it's a practical use of limited space. It was fairly expensive so takes an adult's weight no problem. We read stories with him on it for many years.

DS has had one for past couple of years. He’s 10. It’s massive. The pull out desk is pretty useless but cupboard, shelves and drawers good for hiding tat as is underneath it. I’m going to get rid soonish as too big. A single bed would take up less room and not be so dominant.

Ds has had his for a few months and he is nearly 4.. he absolutely loves it.. pain to get into when he wants cuddles in bed though 🙄 Company we bought it from sent us the one which has a slide as an accessory to begin with.. DS was gutted when we sent it back !!
