Are you afraid of the dark?

Last night i walked the 5 minutes home from a friends, at around midnight.

I'm becoming increasingly uneasy when doing this, as I'm aware my sight isn't that great, then a started to think of every other thing about me that wouldn't increase my chances of running away, should anything happen.

Sadly, I think I'm getting to the point of being someone who doesn't venture out after dark.

Am I alone in feeling like this, and are you afraid of the dark; indoors or out?
And why?

I'm scared of the dark inside but not outside but I think that's because I live in a city and it is never properly dark outside.

I work nights and often wander around with just the emergency lighting on, I can see enough not to go arse over tit, and only put the main lights on if I need to. But I feel very secure at work, and crucially I don't sleep. I have to leave a light on at night (and during the day if on nights and it'll be dark when I get up) because I often wake totally disoriented and panic if I'm in the dark, even at home. It's worse if I'm away anywhere.
Walking out at night depends on where, I will go up with the dogs through the fields in the dark and would go on my own, but there'd be no one around, I'd much rather do that than walk through the well lit, next town along at night on my own.

No, I love the dark. I once walked home for several miles in the middle of the night down country lanes after I was taken night fishing and decided it was a load of rubbish. Would do it again happily!

I'm petrified of the dark inside I leave a bedside lamp on, the hallway light and have a lamp on in the living room I've been like it for as long as I can remember, the worst bit about it is all 3 of my dcs have to leave a light on or they can't sleep now. I'm not great with the dark outside and as pp as said I can't look out the window as I'm terrified of something looking back at me and I can't look at the windows either also I run from the bedroom to the living room incase something is stood waiting to get me, No I don't watch scary films and have never watched them im just a scaredy cat

I live in south London and am not bothered by walking around in the dark principally because even at 1am there's still plenty of people/ traffic around and some shops open. However, I walk fast, stand tall and look around and behind me frequently. I'm much more ( and am aware how nuts this sounds) afraid of zombies. I can imagine those pretty much anywhere as soon as the sun goes down.
Inside, I can walk around with all lights off no problem, but when dark, curtains downstairs must be closed so I don't see the zombie person staring through the window trying to eat my brains break in.

I love the dark, indoors and out. I grew up in a city, so it was never properly dark; and I loved all the more walking in the country after dark, or driving on unlit roads: you never get to use the main beam in a city!

@iklboo I too used to shut myself in cupboards, and I'd put something down to stop light coming through under the door; or when everyone was at home in the evening relaxing and doing their own thing, I'd ask someone to tie something over my eyes so I could sit quietly and just hear the voices around me, and I'd be in darkness. Smile

I'm fine in the dark outside, I live pretty remote the only thing thats going to be following me is sheep Grin
But if I'm alone in the house I sleep with a nightlight or side light on. I used to be fine but a couple of years ago I woke up to someone breaking into my flat at the time and I hated scrambling about in the dark trying to find my glasses and my phone to call the police while freaking out and in the weeks afterwards I slept with the light on so people looking in would think someone was up.
Even though its unlikely to happen here, I live in the middle of nowhere! It still spooks me enough to sleep with a small light on.
