Just that really... can I date it today and give it to then Tuesday )shit all bank holiday) and would they have to accept today’s date or would they only take it from Tuesday?

It's from the day you hand it in.

Oh pants. Ok thank you for replying. It’s a whole month aswell as usual!

You can send it now via email and it will still count from today!

dinkydolphin · 03/05/2019 22:29

Then just print and reconfirm with verbal notice on Tuesday.

EmmaC78 · 03/05/2019 22:30

They would take it from Tuesday, the day you hand it in, otherwise you could put any date in the past you want and not actually work any notice.

HotChocolateLover · 03/05/2019 22:30

Can’t you email it? My last two jobs (NHS and Civil Service) both accepted that. You could even do an electronic signature if they insist.

Inbedbynine · 03/05/2019 22:32

Hang on lots of conflicting answers.... yes I could email now but it won’t be picked up until Tuesday...

Email it now anyway and then you've got more of a chance of having today's date accepted. Just be careful that it wouldn't be considered bad form where you work to email your notice.

itsboiledeggsagain · 03/05/2019 22:39

Is it still the working day where you are? If not then no.

Inbedbynine · 03/05/2019 22:39

Yes it would be considered bad form that’s for sure but they are bullying me out of my job so I’m not bothered how it looks Grin just wondered if there were any laws on it.

It's never easy handing in your notice. I hope it goes well for you.

BayandBlonde · 03/05/2019 22:48

I'm pretty sure email communication is deemed to be delivered once it has been sent, unless you get a report back saying it hasn't been delivered for whatever reason.

When I handed my last notice in, I did it on the first day of my two week holiday. So when I got back I only had two weeks of my four week notice left to serve. Yes it was bad form but the firm were a bunch of tossers!

There is no ‘law’ over notice you can walk out tomorrow is you want but your reference, final pay, holiday pay etc depends on you working notice. They can sue for breach of contract but it’s rare and more trouble than it’s worth. Good luck ideas bullied out of my last role.
