Nights in white satin...

Tonight..a revelation...
For at least 30 years I was picturing KNIGHTS wearing white satin as they rode their never ending journey on horseback.

Tonight I realised the truth Grin Blush

My kids are not (rightly) taking the piss out of me!

Oh! Well...you learn something new every day I suppose. I always pictured knights when I was little, too.

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 04/05/2019 21:18

I thought there was an advert for white satin perfume which featured knights on horseback or did I dream that?

Wallywobbles · 04/05/2019 22:39

Ah it does make more sense now. But I was another knight person.

TheSilveryPussycat · 05/05/2019 00:15

Wasn't White Satin the name of a type of writing paper?

TheSilveryPussycat · 05/05/2019 00:18

Wasn't White Satin a type of writing paper in the 60's?

RoseAndRose · 05/05/2019 08:12

Yes and it still is. It's not a brand name. It's a description of the colour and the finish of the paper.

Like white satin paint

ShowOfHands · 05/05/2019 08:20

Given how often this comes up on MN, I'm surprised so many people haven't encountered this fact before.

Do we need to explain the channel tunnel, baby vests and that crap about toasters too?

EleanorReally · 05/05/2019 08:24

oh yes, i came on this thread to correct op

Catchingbentcoppers · 05/05/2019 08:27

@ShowOfHands well done, you're awesome and everyone else is a bit thick for not spending so much time on here they've seen every thread. I've been here over 12 years and never seen it mentioned. Anyway, hope you feel better.

Shutuptodd · 05/05/2019 08:29

What it's not knights? I had images of them in white satin robes.

EleanorReally · 05/05/2019 08:33

yes show of hands, please do explain

EleanorReally · 05/05/2019 08:44

Just told DH, who was similarly surprised.

Cottonwoolmouth · 05/05/2019 08:50

Wait! What? I still don’t understand?

I thought it was about being bed -in white satin sheets- with you lover.....

No?

Cottonwoolmouth · 05/05/2019 08:50

I’ve never seen it on here..

EleanorReally · 05/05/2019 08:52

In fact I am pretty sure i have the single Shock

Cottonwoolmouth · 05/05/2019 08:52

I’ve just read the lyrics - why are they rude?

ShowOfHands · 05/05/2019 08:57

You've completely misunderstood my tone.

I am genuinely surprised. Not because I think people are thick but because usually on these threads most people say "I found that out on MN too". I have found out a zillion things I didn't know on MN and I think most people assume it's knights not nights.

BrillyPribble · 05/05/2019 08:58

I thought you’d spelled it wrong in your title!
😆 me too!
The weirdest bit being that when a PP mentioned it being on Days of future passed, I clearly remember being a child looking at the record sleeve and understanding that it was Nights as in the end of the day. Somehow in the intervening years of not thinking about it, nights have morphed into knights. Bizarre!

Catchingbentcoppers · 05/05/2019 09:07

Do we need to explain the channel tunnel, baby vests and that crap about toasters too?

So why the sneery question above? I don't think anyone 'misread' your tone @ShowOfHands.

It was a light-hearted thread and should have stayed that way.

funkybum · 05/05/2019 09:22

My son was born to this song Smile

Cottonwoolmouth · 05/05/2019 09:31

Can anyone explain why it’s rude?

lucysmam · 05/05/2019 09:47

@ShowOfHands you might need to explain the toaster thing...

TheSilveryPussycat · 05/05/2019 10:02

Following on from my previous posts, I presume white satin paper was what he used for the "letters I've written/ never meaning to send"

ILiveInSalemsLot · 05/05/2019 10:48

ShowOfHands I might need the toaster explanation too

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 05/05/2019 10:54

The numbers on the dial correspond with how many minutes it toasts for
Except it's bollocks
