Just sold something on ebay, winner says it was accidental, now what?

It sold for £102 last night, the winner has just messaged me to say that her son bid £10,000 on it (stuff is only worth approx £120!). What do I do now?

Oops! Could you offer it to the next highest bidder? I would relist it if possible, but I’m quite a soft touch!

SecondHandTicking · 03/05/2019 11:47

Offer to next highest bidder

Clutterfreeintraining · 03/05/2019 12:02

As annoying as it is, I'd cancel the sale. You will get a fvf refund and relist.

I agree with PP’s cancel the sale and do a second chance offer to the second highest bidder.

Before you decide what to do check the rules on paying listing fees. I got caught out selling a vehicle once (not sure if the rules for that are different from other things) where the winner asked me to cancel as he'd 'forgotten' he had no way to collect it. I wasn't happy but didn't think I had any choice but to cancel, but when I did that I found I still had to pay the listing fee as I'd just cancelled and not gone through the dispute process. I the same applies to you I'd be telling the 'winner' I'd only cancel if they pay my listing fee first.

AintNobodyHereButUsReindeer · 03/05/2019 12:48

Okay so it's been cancelled, I sent a second chance offer to the next highest bidder and then looked at their profile, it says they're based in the US. Isn't sending parcels to America super expensive?! Confused

OP posts:
MrsCharlesBrandon · 03/05/2019 12:50

If you have to send to the US then there's a centre in the UK you can send it to and they sort out the forward post.

I think so, didn't you set it to UK only? People shouldn't be able to bid if so surely?

AintNobodyHereButUsReindeer · 03/05/2019 12:59

I thought I had set it to UK only, obviously didn't, did I? Bugger.

NorthernRunner · 03/05/2019 13:02

Surely the bidder just has to pay higher postage? Or am I being dim HmmSmile

DontCallMeShitley · 03/05/2019 13:09

It sounds like the buyer changed their mind and didn't try to cancel the bid.

Buyer pays the postage depending on what you had it set to in the listing. Otherwise you might be able to find a way to cancel also depending on your settings and whether you stated UK only. Sending to the US might offset the fees for cancelling if you can't find another way.

tanpestryfirescreen · 03/05/2019 13:31

It is a £1 listing weekend. So relist

Give the original bidder an unpaid item flag. Don't cancel the sale or they get away with it.

AintNobodyHereButUsReindeer · 03/05/2019 13:34

The winner sent me a screenshot of the confirmation email of the £10k bid so I believe her on this one.

If you signed up to the GSP (Global Shipping Program) then you'll send the parcel to your nearest depot who then repackage and forward it to the USA.

Its worked well for me a few times, though I am aware people have had issues.
