Going on holiday tomorrow, can't check in - panicking

DH and I are flying to the US tomorrow and he's just tried to check us in online but can't check me in. He's phoned the airline and apparently I've been selected for a random check and it's nothing to worry about but I'm a nervous flyer and I'm panicking.

Has this happened to anyone else? DH was reassured we will get the seats we selected (we're flying premium economy if it makes a difference so selected them when we booked the holiday) but I'm now in a state thinking we won't be sitting together. I've already told DH I'm not going if I can't sit with him.

Is it worth DH checking in online so he's got his seat and as there's only 2 in the row I'll hopefully get the one next to him?

P.s DH is American, so we were baffled why they chose him and not me (UK)

Had this a month or so ago. Neither me or my partner could check in: we were flying to the US, flights were bought in the US, one of us had an American passport and an English visa. Tickets were also booked by partner's mother, who shares my first name and his last name! We were totally freaking out that we'd flagged for fraud or terrorism or something, because it was a confusing situation

We turned up, and they said it was a conflict with our seats. We checked in in the airport and it was fine!!!

You'll be fine. DH had this in October when we were flying to Boston. We just sat at the other side of security and laughed at him. Grin It took no more than five minutes.

My partner had this flying to the US. Really don't stress –it's just a small check and if there's a pat down it will be done by a woman for the women.

You'll have the same seats you booked and your partner can wait for you to board together. They usually do the screening before boarding begins, while everyone's waiting at the gate, and it's done in the same place.

Don't let it ruin your holiday excitement! Think of all the good films you can watch and the perks of premium economy, plus the trip that awaits when you land! Have a wonderful time x

Is your ESTA in date and connected to your current passport? Just double check! My DH has this when he got a new passport but didn't get a new esta to attach to it! He had to apply for a new esta at check in and luckily it came back very quickly!
