Maybe you do now??

dementedpixie · 02/05/2019 20:30

Try an antihistamine and see if it helps

BlueBrush · 02/05/2019 20:32

I'm 41 and only started getting hayfever a couple of years ago. Try antihistamines!

I didn't get hay fever until I was an adult. At the moment the birch pollen is out and my eyes are in a right state. I take an antihistamine and use eye drops (Vidisic) to help sooth the sore/itchiness.

APurpleSquirrel · 02/05/2019 20:54

I do get hay fever & usually your eyes itch if it's that.
However last year none of my usual hay fever meds were working, eyes were really bloodshot, itching & felt gritty, some crusting. Saw dr who tried diff hay fever drops (didn't work) then simple gel for dry eyes (helped a bit but ultimately didn't work) got referred to an optician & was diagnosed with Episcleritis & was prescribed steroid eye drops which sorted it out.
Try antihistamines first but maybe go to the opticians if it doesn't clear up.

Another one coming on to say birch pollen! I have no other allergies and never had hay fever until I hit my thirties. Now I get it every May without fail - mine started up a couple of days ago.

Nnnnnineteen · 02/05/2019 21:18

I developed hay fever at 32 and it has got worse every year. The first year was an on going runny nose, which ramped up a bit the following year and so on. Try antihistamines as pps suggest. Mine is tree related and I am better if I take them at bedtime as mornings are when I suffer most whereas my father who is allergic to grass is worst in the afternoon/late evening, so takes his in the morning.

Nnnnnineteen · 02/05/2019 21:19

Oh and mine starts in February but is normally done sometime in May

One of my close friends always came down with a 'summer cold' in June till we twigged it must be hayfever. Just try the eyedrops if it helps then bingo.

Yabadabadont · 02/05/2019 21:22

could be conjunctivitis... I had similar a few weeks ago.

IRememberSoIDo · 02/05/2019 21:26

I'm 39 and have had itchy eyes at this time of year the last two years which I've been told is hay fever and antihistamines get rid of it. No other symptoms like sneezing etc and never had it before.

Overseasmom100 · 02/05/2019 22:14

Ive tried eye drops refreshes them but bam next day the same. Feel abit sore tonight but not so I need to rub them or anything just sooo watery

The eye drops only help for a few hours. Sounds like hayfever....other things that help (apart from a tablet) are to shower and wash your hair at night as it washes the pollen off. Also keep your bedroom window shut. Wear sunglasses/glasses when outside. Try to avoid being out at dawn and sunset as that's when the pollen is moving about most.

Overseasmom100 · 02/05/2019 22:24

Really Im shocked about hpw strong the pollen is

coconutcurls · 02/05/2019 22:30

Matt Edmonson on radio 1 was saying his hayfever was really bad this week. They did a whole little section on it. Tree pollen is high this time of year, grass pollen starts next month!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 02/05/2019 22:34

Google dry eye syndrome. Might it be that? I suffer and my eyes absolutely stream sometimes.

lpchill · 02/05/2019 22:36

My husband had the same for months. Just changed our bed and discovered why. Our duvet is feather/down. It has been releasing small bits of feathers. When I disturbed it my eyes and nose where streaming.

BelfortGabbz · 02/05/2019 22:47

I also think it could be dry eye syndrome. My eyes starting watering from nowhere, terrible in the wind/cold.
Sunglasses help and optician advised Hycosan Extra drops and Hycosan night oitment.
Will soothe your eyes anyway, even if it's an allergic reaction.

I had this, my eyes were streaming constantly, eye drops and anti histamine made no difference. I got Simple eye balm and face wipes and it stopped. I worked out that I am allergic to Aldi face wipes.

MakeLemonade · 02/05/2019 23:19

If you’re London or South East it’s possible these little caterpillars could be the problem:

Try an antihistamine.

I had hay fever as a child, nothing from about 13, now 37 and started having the symptons again 3 or 4 years ago.

I believe though it can just come on in adulthood.
