“I’ll meet you where you are.”

Metaphorically, I mean. Not literally meet you in a place.

Bloke i’m Seeing keeps saying this.

No idea! I'd have asked him what he meant.

formerbabe · 02/05/2019 19:12

He'll take things at your pace perhaps?

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 02/05/2019 19:42

Ditch him. You can't date someone who uses a phrase like that.

AFistfulofDolores1 · 02/05/2019 19:47

Why does he think he's somewhere different from you? I'd be interested in asking him that. Because "meeting you where you are" assumes he isn't there with you on something.

Jupiters · 02/05/2019 19:50

No idea, seems fairly vague... Have you asked him what he means?

OKBobble · 02/05/2019 20:12

Does he also "reach out" to you?

NakedBrainStrollingInManhatten · 02/05/2019 20:15

Probably that he's a bit of a knob and he's leaving all the relationship progression up to you so that later on he can act like you're the one who wanted to move things faster/slower than he wanted to and use that as a reason to end things when he can't be bothered any more.

Mustgetonwithit · 02/05/2019 20:24

Ask him exactly what HE means by it? Irritating thoughHmm

TheBulb · 02/05/2019 20:35

Agree with NakedBrain. Or just he’s he emotional equivalent of the person who will never choose a restaurant or film:

‘Do you fancy Italian or Japanese?’
‘Ooh, I don’t mind.’
‘OK, superhero franchise or indie comedy?’
‘Oh, I’m fine with either.’
Angry

Bluntness100 · 02/05/2019 20:36

If assume he's saying he will agree with whatever you think or want.

Couldn't be doing with that myself, I like a man with an opinion and some balls.

managedmis · 02/05/2019 20:56

Flaky

Pixiefee · 02/05/2019 21:00

Is he Mr D'arcy?

PunkRockHippy · 02/05/2019 21:11

Ugh. Grow a spine. Agree, call him on the Mr Niceguy and ask him what he actually means.

Peakypolly · 02/05/2019 21:16

I would understand it to mean they would be happy to compromise in order to make the relationship work.
For example; you can only manage to meet once a week, they would like more, but understand the circumstances you have. Does that make sense?

SoyDora · 02/05/2019 21:17

I have no idea, it’s not a phrase I’ve ever heard. I’d ask them exactly what they meant by it!

Ohyesiam · 02/05/2019 21:20

I’d think it meant he was flexible and willing to compromise.
But I would ask him incase he means “ I don’t have a mind of my own”

Beanybye · 02/05/2019 21:23

I’d say it means that he’s happy with whatever you’re comfortable/ready for. If you want something serious then he does too, if you want to take things slowly then that’s equally fine. He’ll go at your pace.

FinallyHere · 03/05/2019 07:53

Only once you know him getter will you know whether this means he is genuinely happy for you to set the pace or happy for you to feel you set the place til he feels secure enough that he can take control

But then in life we do face a series of risks

EffYouSeeKaye · 03/05/2019 07:59

Not heard that one before. Hope they aren’t finding new ways to be knobs 🙄

FiremanKing · 03/05/2019 09:09

He’ll move on to

It is what it is.

And

We are where we are.

FiremanKing · 03/05/2019 09:11

Is it something to do with this?

KissMeBunty · 03/05/2019 09:14

He means he's happy to take things at your pace and is happy to let your feelings and circumstances steer the direction of your relationship. Don't get why so many people are being so negative about it- he sounds kind.

FinallyHere · 03/05/2019 15:13

Don't get why so many people are being so negative about it- he sounds kind.

It's because in the very early days it is not easy to distinguish the genuinely kind from the presenting as kind in order to lure you in.

Until you really know someone, it makes a lot of sense to consider both possibilities. There are so many heartbreaking stories on MN, of people who only after they are trapped by family and financial commitments, realise they have got involved with selfishness or worse.
