My nose is veers off to one side, fixing it?

I’ve just had my brows done so I was trying to take a face on selfie to send to my friend and I’m nearly in tears as my nose is so crooked. My face is the least symmetrical anyway but my nose is so bad.
I’ve been trawling through old photos and it didn’t use to be like this. I’ve found a photo from about 8 years ago and it looks straight and normal.
I don’t remember ever breaking it but obviously I must have.
I suffer from rhinitis, bad hay fever etc anyway so I don’t breathe well at night and am always being woken up with a blocked nose but I’ve just grown used to it. Now I’m thinking that maybe it’s because my nose is so crooked.
Would my gp laugh if I asked to be referred to ENT now or should I not bother and start saving to have it straightened privately?

I have the same problem. It's like a fleshy lump is growing in the side of my nose and bending it the other way.....
Started happening about 20 years ago.

I have a dent in the end of my nose which has come about in recent years.
I have no idea how it has happened.

Oh sorry!
I'm sure your gp would refer you to find out whether anything could be done on the nhs, particularly as you have problems.

NerdyBird · 02/05/2019 22:46

Do ask for a referral, especially as you wake with a blocked nose. You may have to insist. You could have a deviated septum which can be corrected, or you may have polyps or something.

I went to my GP years ago with problems breathing through my nose.
I ended up having a septoplasty (very short nasal bones so didn't need a rhinoplasty - not entirely successful, but near enough), plus the surgeon also reshaped my nose a bit.
See your GP.

Thanks everyone. Looks like it might be worth going to ask then. Just being able to breathe properly would be amazing.

I had a very deviated septum and only realised in my 20s that it wasn't normal to only breathe through one nostril 🙄 I've had two surgeries on my nose which have straightened my septum but unfortunately have not resolved the problem, I just can't breathe through the other side now because the outer part of my nose had grown so wonky and twisted. I can't bring myself to have yet another op yet, but yes, being able to breathe normally would be wonderful!

I dislocated my nose in two places causing a deviated septum. I also have bad hay fever etc. It was a couple of months before I saw the GP but when I mentioned the same symptoms as you he took one quick look and referred me to ENT. I started with several months of setoid drops and sprays before the operation as there was also a lot of inflammation from the hay fever and allergies. Good luck

Before you do anything drastic, be aware that the image you see in a selfie is likely to be warped and your nose might not actually be that crooked. Holding a camera so close to your face gives you a distorted image.

If it's making you unhappy, definitely speak to your GP to understand your options.
From a purely aesthetical perspective, if it makes you miserable, go for a nose job, but make sure you really think about it first as you don't want regrets, and of course go to a reputable surgeon .

When I was younger I was very flat chested and it made me miserable for years, I would obsess about it. When I was in my early 20s I finally bit the bullet and had a boob job (I hadn't before as I was worried about the stigma attached to it)... not a big one, just an A to a C, and it seriously changed my life! I never flaunted my new boobs and never wanted bigger boobs than everyone else, it just made me stop thinking about them all the time! I know there is a stigma when it comes to cosmetic surgery, and I do think it can become an addiction for some, and people do it for the wrong reasons. But life is short, and if we can make safe, informed changes to make us happy, then we should!

Good Luck! X
