Anyone know about teeth? Is it possible to have a denture for one tooth??

Is it possible to have a denture (or something similar) for a missing back molar? I've heard about bridges but I believe it's necessary to remove a bit of the surrounding teeth to fix it in place and I really don't want to damage good teeth.

This molar has been missing for years and isn't a major problem but it is visible when I smile widely luckily I'm a miserable git so rarely happens I'd quite like to see myself non-gappy for a change.

Anyone have any knowledge about this?

I'm aware of implants, by the way, but am hoping for something a tad cheaper right now.

I have one for my middle lower left hand molar. It's a single denture that fits with two clips that attach it to the teeth either side.
I couldn't afford either an implant or bridge, denture was free (maternity exemption). I wear it at night but don't like the feel of it/eating with it during the day.

Thanks, APurpleSquirrel - that's the kind of thing I was thinking of. Do the clips damage the teeth either side?

A couple of my friends have a single tooth that they wear . Think theirs are eye teeth .

I guess you have to have teeth that are suitable to take a clip either side .

My neighbour used to have one (many years ago). It was a front tooth attached to a large plate that sat on the roof of her mouth.

My Dad had a single front tooth denture - he called it a plate - for around 40 years since loosing a tooth as a young adult. He eventually had implants around 4 years ago, as he had other problems with his upper front teeth and needed them removed.

My DM had a single tooth on a plate for a while but got an implant a year or two ago

I had a single tooth made, as an NHS paying patient, for a back molar gap. It just fitted over the gum, no plate in the roof of my mouth. The pink "gum" part was shaped to fit around the base of the adjacent teeth, but there were no clips.

Unfortunately, when it was first made, the socket was too sore to tolerate it and once that had healed, the teeth either side had begun to move into the gap and it didn't fit.

But, yes they can be made.

I had one made for a back molar. It just slots into the gap. It was done on the NHS and cost about £250.

I don’t really wear it though, because the plastic part feels a bit sharp.

I could do with one foxy
I have one at the front on a small plastic plate

Thanks all - this is good to know. I'll be asking my dentist about this at my next appointment. It'll be really weird to see myself without that gap when I smile!

Here's a pic - the clips are two strands of metal; they might rub the other teeth over time but shouldn't cause an damage I think. It can be a bit uncomfortable & sore to start but the more you wear it the easier it becomes.

Looks like an interesting piece of equipment, APurpleSquirrel! Will probably be showing that to the dentist Grin

Have a google of flexible dentures... I have a single tooth one that simply slots in with small clear-pink side.. you really couldn't tell it's there.
The down side is it's easily lost...and currently my 'spare tooth' is SOMEWHERE in the house ...grrrr
