My bank have charged me a random "Account fee" and have made me overdrawn. Help!

Anyone have any idea what the fee is?? It literally just says "Account fee".

I have an account for spending and a separate account I use for direct debits. I've been charged £10 in both which has made me overdrawn. What's that all about? What on earth is the "Account fee"? I can fix the overdraft but I have never been charged anything before and I had zero notice saying I was going to be charged...

It literally just says "Monthly account fee £10.00". I've had this account for three years, give or take, and no fees before Hmm

Bloody hell BossyBanana did you take that to the financial ombudsman?!

SneakyGremlins · 02/05/2019 09:37

I'm in a very long queue...

I've googled and you can get control free for six months and then they notify you before they start charging you apparently. I haven't been notified so I'll use that as ammo to get them to undo it... I'm also getting rid of the control off my account that I didn't ask for

HURRAH! They have returned both £10 charges (which they can do once every twelve months, and it's been 13 months since they last did!)

They've changed my account back to a basic current account so no more fees next month except the £6.10 because I live out of my overdraft

AND they apologized and made a note because they should have notified me they'd charge me, but they didn't!

Great result Grin

I’m glad it’s sorted because I had no advice to give you OP but I was wondering where the hell you lived that was a two hour drive away from a bank! Grin
