I'm off to Marrakech in 3 weeks. Any tips or recommendations?

As the title. We decided last night to book a last minute when the dc are off school. I really wanted guaranteed sun! And Morroco fit the bill. Has anyone been before please? Would you go again? The reviews for the hotel are mostly good. Smile

We are going back again in October. I love it there. Will you be staying in the town itself or a hotel on the outskirts? I would definitely recommend a trip to the medina, we are taking a guided food tour with Tasting Marrakech which could be a nice idea with your children?

Yes, we've been twice and love it. Even if you aren't staying there, visit the Les Jardins De La Médina for lunch, a swim in the heated pool and a massage. I can't remember how much it was but it was great value for a day pass.

Riad 72 was my favourite meal out, can highly recommend

Take a day trip to the atlas mountains too

We also did a cookery course at kasbah beldi which has a pool and spa available too.

We love it there, have fun!

I loved Marrakech and it was my childrens favourite holiday! Just wander and soak up the sights, drink fresh orange juice in the square and watch the crazy entertainment.
We had a trip out to the Ouzoud falls in the mountains and saw wild Barnary Maqaques which was great and also went quad biking and horse riding in the semi desert just outside town.

Love Marrakech! I'm sure you will do all the normal (Djemma el Fnar, street food, etc) but my recommendation is the House of Photography - brilliant small gallery with beautiful photos from the 19th and 20th century www.maisondelaphotographie.ma It takes about half an hour to look around and is wonderful.

In the souk, keep smiling all the time you haggle and enjoy the process - assume you should pay between 1/3 and 1/2 what they originally ask, or whatever you think the goods are worth, but don't haggle over argan oil from the women's collective. It is apparently Not Done because the women are fleeing abuse and everyone agrees their prices should be respected.

Just enjoy it. Smile, have a joke, wear sunglasses and don’t engage if you are trying to get somewhere. Say la shuukran if you don’t want something. N9 thank you.

If you get lost you’ll end up paying a small boy a tip to help...it’s just a thing. Dress modestly....not shorts and strappy tops.

Oh I love Marrakech! The Majorelle gardens are absolutely beautiful. And agree that the Ouzoud falls are worth a visit if you have a day spare to make the trip out there. For shopping without haggling, visit the Ensemble Artisinal on Avenue Mohamed V - it's a nice complex of shops/stalls, and is a handy way of knowing what sort of price you shouldn't go above when you are haggling in the souk!
