I was waiting to pay for my Tesco shopping today. There was an older man (70s?) with a big load of shopping, a woman behind him with just a litre bottle of milk, then me.
The person had started checking out the man's shopping when he looked round and saw the woman. He said sorry, he hadn't noticed she only had one thing or he would have let her go first. Then he said "just put your milk through with my shopping, save you waiting". So she gave him the milk, the cashier rang it up and gave it to the woman.
She then tried to give the man the money and he said "Oh no, never mind the money. It's only pennies". But the woman insisted on giving him the money and asked how much it was. The cashier had already put through more shopping in the meantime so was looking back to find the price of the milk, the man was trying to say it didn't matter, the woman ended up throwing £2 down and walking away.
I felt a bit sorry for him, he was just trying to be nice. Obviously he could have been a serial killer stalker but it didn't seem that way, it just seemed like an impromptu kindness. It was only a small milk, not a big massive one. But his kindness ended with awkwardness all round.
I was telling a friend and she said no way would she let some random person pay for her milk.
So what do you think? Nice or weird?
