Didn't find out DC's teacher at school induction day

I'm slightly disappointed tbh. Is it usual?
We have three induction days throughout May. The head welcomed us all today and said categorically that we will not know classes or staff until the first day in August, due to numbers.

It would be nice to know in advance of starting but I wouldn’t expect classes to be sorted this early.

I'm presuming it's Primary?

We usually have ours in June. The teachers are revealed then. But there have been times when the teacher hasn't been recruited so you find out via email once all the employment checks take place.

She didn't even say that they were recruiting or if it'd be a current member of staff.

DC wasn't actually that bothered Blush I'd just like to know.

They won't necessarily know who will even be teaching at the school until half-term, as teachers usually only have to give half a term's notice. And if someone does give notice then, it'll be even longer till a replacement has been appointed.

Teachers can give notice till the end of May half term, so heads can’t be sure of staffing till after that - I guess they don’t want to announce it then have to change.

SecondHandTicking · 01/05/2019 17:13

Yes completely usual not to know them yet.

I think ours were presented in late June or so but it sounds like they are not sure how many classes they are running and that's fair enough.

If you signed up to a course for Sept would you expect to know the tutor by now?
If you signed up to a new doctor's surgery 4 months before you needed them would you expect to know them?

In my experience, schools do try to get Reception teachers in place for induction days, so I'm quite surprised this isn't their policy. Do they have a high staff turnover? But May is really early for induction, so that is probably why.
