This has got to be a scam, right?

Parents went to a resort. Met a man who stays there all season. He says he owns the apartments. His wife passed away last year.

He messages my mum upon return as she asked for a price to stay there in summer.

He comes back with £300 per apartment (not person) with a £1 deposit.

That's got to be a scam right? £300 for a week with a quid deposit? At the end of July?

I don't want them to get ripped off

What proof is there that he owns the apartment?

DipDabSherbert · 01/05/2019 16:53

Wait. Now she's saying Ken doesn't own it. He just stays there every year for 6 weeks.

I said why cant you do it through a website

She said its dearer as they take commission

Do not give Ken any money!

Tightarseparent1 · 01/05/2019 16:56

Ken is taking the piss!

DipDabSherbert · 01/05/2019 16:57

She said Ken is paying the £1 for them.

And then they pay the £299 to the owner on arrival

Sounds well dodgy. Stay clear.

Foxmuffin · 01/05/2019 16:58

When would the £300 be payable? As if the deposit is £1 isn’t that the only risk??

DipDabSherbert · 01/05/2019 16:59

She said they pay the rest on arrival...

Ken will wait til flights etc are booked and then say actually you need to send me the £299 with some bs reason. They will have no where to stay on arrival. Avoid!

FiremanKing · 01/05/2019 17:09

Why do people put themselves at risk of losing their money because they think they will save a few quid from doing things properly and where their money will be protected?

FiremanKing · 01/05/2019 17:10

I would be very concerned that she is willing to fall so easily for an obvious scam.

Get her to read this thread.

lemonjumper · 01/05/2019 17:23

Agree with Ridingthegravytrain. Avoid!

MyRankIsSuperintendent · 01/05/2019 17:53

Why don't they try it and find out? Without actually booking the flights? Tell Ken they have then go through the motions (if he's paying the £1 there's nothing to lose). If he asks for payment prior to the holiday they'll know it's a scam.
