What do you think of these for a five year old boys room?

We are moving house on Saturday and need curtains for ds's room. He is five and very into dinosaurs.

His room has been painted a sort of turquoise blue colour and mil has bought his bedroom furniture (white mdf which I hate but am trying to make the best of).

Have seen these curtains but not sure if they are really a great choice, dp thinks they are too young for him. I think they are lovely and that he will be very pleased with them, I also like the light colour.

They need to be blackout because he is a very light sleeper, and very early riser if the sun gets in in the morning. The only other option I can think of that would go well is navy blue or cream /white.

His room is actually very similar to this, the walls are that exact colour and the ceiling is the same style where it comes down to where a picture rail might be. Have similar colour laminate flooring too (though ours is a shade darker). Furniture will be all white and he has one of those massive grey ikea road map rugs that will fill most of the floor once fully furnished and toyboxes etc are all in

As a plus he will be able to easily spell Dinosaur!

All the range for childrennlook lovely. The stripes are nice as he won’t grow out of them and they don’t date

No, they are lovely.

I love all that range, been looking at this for my own 5yr ds.

We have the transport theme at the moment but are changing it as we are decorating his room and still undecided what theme to go with.

BillywigSting · 01/05/2019 12:46

Those are OK but I don't like pencil pleats sorry

I don’t think the striped ones have any monkeys on?

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 01/05/2019 14:14

Blackout curtains in curtain poles are generally not blackout in my bitter experience

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 01/05/2019 14:16

On normal tracks they are fine for us - I agree poles would allow too much of a gap and too much light come in but tracks are perfect as they are close to the window.

Long is also good, OP, to keep the light to a minimum.

BillywigSting · 01/05/2019 17:33

Ah dp is dead set against tracks and the poles are already up so poles it is.

I'm torn between the dinosaur and space ones a pp linked to, think I'll ask ds what he thinks, it's his room after all!

Thanks all for the great advice Grin

They're lovely but I'd say expensive too, plus eyelet curtains are a nightmare to open and close ( if the fittings are already up I'm sorry!!) But lovely print and great looking curtains

unicornsrule · 01/05/2019 17:52

Dinosaur curtains are gorgeous 😆🦕🦕🦕

unicornsrule · 01/05/2019 17:54

Love the wall colour gorgeous blue colour

unicornsrule · 01/05/2019 17:55

The space ones are good too

Shmithecat2 · 01/05/2019 17:57

£60 for a pair of blackout curtains is a good price. They're lovely, and even if he 'grows out of them' Hmm in a couple of years, I think its worth the money. FWIW, although my ds is only 3, he'd go potty for them, and love them for a very very long time.

BillywigSting · 01/05/2019 18:49

Ds picked the wall colour, he actually has really good taste for one so young!

I've shown him the dinosaur and space ones, he loves the dinosaur ones, his little face lit up when he saw them. So sod dp, Dino curtains it is!

if I have to lump the furniture he can lump these

Hmm, my nearly 6yo would find them a bit young. What about these?

They've been ordered now, I showed them to ds and he loves them. He is getting the bedding to match too.

@BellywigSting what’s the colour? I love it.

Teanocoffeethanks · 01/05/2019 22:58

Loved Dunelm curtains. We got the space ones and worked fine with enough light blocked out even on a pole /eyelet.
However when the sun shine on them they gave off a funny smell for months!!!!

BillywigSting · 01/05/2019 23:23

@ThunderStorms it's only wilko own brand, it says 'turquoise' on the tin but it's really a light blue, it does need a few coats to look even but it's turned out quite nicely I think! Like I said, ds has surprisingly good taste for a five year old Grin

Thank you! I’ve been. Looking for something like that for a while.

To answer your OP, I always bought plain curtains that they wouldn’t grow out of, but got fun duvets/ pillows etc. cheaper and easier to change that way.
