Anyone had their ear microsuctioned?

I had mine done this morning after 6 weeks of ear infections.

How long after before you stopped feeling dizzy and unbalanced? I am surprised by just how bad I feel I guess I figured once the blockage was gone I would finally have some relief and right now I feel as bad as when the ear infection was at its worst (I know it is only 2 hours ago Smile just very impatient to get better after this length of time of sickness)

On a side note Its the oddest sensation I have ever experienced. Feel something in my ear hear a lot of noise and only sensation was when he tugged out 2 rather large pieces that came loose..

I've never even considered going anywhere other than the gp. Why pay when you can have syringing done for free? It was also free the one time that wasn't successful and I was referred to the hospital for the suctioning.

@BrokenWing good luck and hope you find it useful.

@Qweenbee My Gp surgery will only syringe in extreme cases and even after 6 weeks of pain and 8 different types of medication they had not yet said " lets try syringing" With the ENT referral it can be 1-2 weeks before I get seen so honestly £50 seemed a bargain to start feeling better sooner rather than in 2 weeks time.

This morning I am slightly dizzy but my sense of balance has returned and no ringing in ear Grin

My GPs won't do it. There is a big notice on the wall telling you that the NHS will not pay for ear syringing any more along with many other things.

My GPs don’t do it now either. Private service visits the pharmacy next door and they charge £40 one ear and I think £60 for both .

I had both mine done last year at a hearing centre. He did microsuction on one and a combination of microsuction and using water on the other. I was warned about feeling dizzy but that only lasted a few minutes and then drove home.
The nurse at the doctors had tried to syringe it but that didn't work and I was left with a sore ear and covered in water.

It took about 2 hours for the dizziness to go for me. I was amazed at how much I could hear straight after though- I could hear my clothing rubbing. I paid £90 for 2 ears in a London clinic as GP wouldn't do it.

I didn't really get any kind of help from my GP or the NHS specialist to my chronic ear infections and problems with dead skin gathering inside my ears. Only in private did I get the infections in control (I had a resistant strain of bacteria and fungal issues, which were never tested for on the NHS) and the follow up treatment. I doubt someone's ear wax is going to be a high priority for many of the surgeries, either. My previous surgery had an actual no-syringing policy, no matter the problem, or so they said at least.

£35 per ear in Specsavers

@Enko Hey I’ve experienced something similar. Did you find out what was causing the dizziness? or did the ear microsuction rectify it?

Enko · 20/05/2022 16:49

@Beccaaaaa I had to reread this entire thread to remember it as its quite some time ago.
When I went to the ENT I was microsuctioned for the 3rd time. I have had it done a further 3 times since (roughly once a year) I have also got a steroid cream as I have like another poster on this thread got too dry ear an ear canal.

I DO recommend the micro suction as for me it meant the difference between having felt sick for 6 weeks to actually coping with every day life. Ear pain is so miserable and that year I had an ear infection from March through to October I had 15 different t types of antibiotics it was miserable. The two weeks after each of the 2 microsuctions eased the pain each time.

When I have had it done after each time I feel a lot of relief and the pressure in my ear clears. I still find it a odd sensation and experience but for me it has helped a lot.

@Enko Ah I see it was a while ago so tysm for replying! I’m glad to hear it has helped you. I recently used olive oil to help clear my ears as they have felt quite uncomfortable but it made it worse and I felt dizzy and my right ear was really painful! I had my ears micro suctioned yesterday evening and the audiologist said there was a lot of wax and that probably caused the dizziness and made me feel poorly. I was hoping the micro suction will resolve my dizziness and pain but it’s still there slightly today? did it take a little while for things to improve for you?

Enko · 20/05/2022 18:19

yes took a while for the dizziness to disappear completely and I still have to be very careful with my ears

I've had it done a couple of times in a private clinic.

Wonderful 😁

I had my left ear microsuctioned four weeks ago and it has left it feeling blocked and I now have muffled hearing and feel unbalanced. Have a private ENT appointment on Wednesday to hopefully find out what has gone wrong. I will definitely be steering clear of microsuction in the future and feel so angry there were no warnings that this is not risk free!!
