I’d love a bolt hole by the sea and can only really afford a static/lodge thing. Whenever I’ve stayed at static sites, they’re not really “my sort of thing” - cheap booze, bingo, and very cliquey. I don’t want that. Is there a version that’s a bit more Radio 4?

Need East Anglia ish.

(I’m aware I sound stuck up. I’m not in denial.Blush)

Probably Southwold
Up my way it's Abersoch

Maybe wells next the sea or Heacham area?
I’m with you OP, I would buy one if I could find one that was “Radio 4 but not too Daily Mail “

If you ever fancy a change, Portballintrae in NI is exactly what you want.

It is definitely Radio 4 land. One of my fav places.

I love Norn, but I want to be able to get there on a Friday

There is a small park of them, hidden away, in Burnham Market in north Norfolk.

There are also some in Wells next to the Sea

They are a bad investment.

Buy one by all means for you to enjoy in a naice park but even if you maintain it well it will depreciate massively - not dissimilar to a car.

You'd be better off saving for a small property that needs work and having "working holidays" to fix it up. Or simply renting someone else's static money pit.

Honestly- look into it, financially they are a nightmare (unless you rent it out constantly and even then with cleaning fees you might just barely break even in a popular location).

Look for a site with no entertainment and it will be better. Plenty here in Scotland.

The Warren, Abersoch, just lovely!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 30/04/2019 20:28

I agree with DeRigueurMortis. They are not an investment in the same way that a 'fixed' property is. They depreciate badly and I'm pretty sure you have to offer first refusal to the site owner if you want to sell them. Meanwhile you will have site fees to pay whether or not you use it. It would probably cost you less to just rent someone else's.

Get a touring caravan instead and go off to the nicer sites at the weekend. We’ve just started doing this and I love it.

Completely agree with this^^

If you want a 'naice' park you'd be better off looking for an 'owners only' park but obviously that means that you can't rent it out. Some parks only open from March-October so again you are restricted by how much time you can be there. Site fees can easily be £400/month which would be a bloody good weekend away every month or even a small mortgage on a 2nd property.

We've looked at this but once we counted up the number of weekends that we'd realistically be there due to other commitments and then realised that we'd have to give up our other holidays to get the use out of it we abandoned the plan.

If I won the lottery and had the cash to 'waste' on a caravan at the coast I'd be there like a shot as I do love the idea. Financially I think it's a bad idea.

Ones where dogs aren't allowed and have no entertainment or pool

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 30/04/2019 23:29

No advice but like to add I love the Warren at Abersoch but even in my lottery dreams I would wince at the the £650,000 price tag for a new build beach front position on a 20 year lease.
