Buy a Gucci watch to resell?

I have a Gucci watch that DH bought me many years ago when I found out I was pg with DD after a Mc.
I occasionally wear it and recently it stopped working so I took it to the jewellers for a battery replacement. They sent it off to Gucci who returned it saying that as it was so old it couldnt be repaired and giving me a voucher for 50% off any Gucci watch ( to be bought direct from Gucci)
Thing is I don’t want another watch, and I actually got a bloke in the market to replace the battery for £10 and it now works fine. DD would love one for her birthday but I’m not comfortable with a 15 year old wearing such an expensive watch. The other option is to buy for example an £800 watch for £400 and try and sell it for £700 or so. It would be boxed with all the receipts and everything from Gucci so authenticity would be easy to prove . BUT I have no idea how to go about selling it - FB?
What should I do?

My husband has sold some watches through Pistonheads classified.

He met with buyer and accepted cash that was paid straight into the bank.

This is what Gumtree advise-

If selling on Facebook use the same rules and cash on collection. Never accept PayPal for collection items.

“Ebay -

It's really very simple to manage though. Advertise (with an very good advert) for an expensive price but invite 'best offers' (automaticaly set it to reject stupid low bids from morons or drunks). Once the dialogue starts, explain it's only available through a face to face deal in a very public place (bank, coffee shop) for cash on collection or money transferred at a bank with you both present. Zero risk for either party.

People are happy to do this for a two grand watch, peace of mind both ways. Yes you limit your pool of buyers hugely but you're restricting it to genuine buyers - it's better. I've sold 15-20k worth this way, it's fine. Obviously if they're in Glasgow and you're in London it might not work, but there will be someone from London who will want it. I would not accept PayPal or post the watch unless I know the person, full stop.”

Look at ebay, Gucci watches don't sell for anywhere near full price, even new. You're paying for a name, not for quality, and as soon as you buy it most of the value goes.

Although that is somewhere you could get one for your daughter!

(On ebay you need to look at the sold prices, not what they're listed for sale at.)

Yes, unfortunately Gucci is a fashion brand and won’t hold value like other brands such as Omega, Panerai etc.

Looks like DD might be getting lucky for her birthday then!

Ebay will also take a big chunk in fees unless you can get one of the £1 seller fee offers - I think the maximum seller fee is £40 and you have paypal fees on top, that will probably take it up to about £50 on a sale of that value.

So maybe the Pistonheads link might be worth a try if you go ahead, but you probably won't make as much as you hope unless you drop lucky.
