Anyone had a tooth extraction? I have a question

I had a molar removed yesterday.
Today it’s a little uncomfortable and a bit painful around my ear (but that maybe because I have TMJ disorder and it could be from my jaw joint?).
Anyhow, I had a molar removed a couple of years ago and I got dry socket, I have never known pain like it, I would rather have my children again without pain relief than go through that!!
I am so anxious not to get dry socket again but worried that there is a white looking area in the hole where the tooth was, it’s looks like bone or tooth. I’m worried the blood clot has gone and I am heading towards dry socket.
I’ve rung the dentist and they are ringing me back later this evening.
Has anyone had a tooth removed and did you have a white ‘lump’ in the socket? Is that normal? I’m stressing so, so do not want dry socket again!!!!

Could it be granulation tissue? I had a whitish lump in mine and mine healed fine.

I felt the same when I had a tooth extraction a few weeks ago, as I had got dry socket twice before.
I didn't this time round as I salt water rinsed multiple times a day.
It might be a bit of food in there.
If it's dry socket it generally looks hollow and dark.

This is how mine looked after a day or so. I am a worrier so I took a pic of it.

Sorry pic was missing

That looks normal, it's slough and blood clot. Op, it's surgery, it's going to be sore. You wouldn't have dry socket this soon.

I had a molar out in January and my mouth looked the same as the picture posted above. It was gross and I was also convinced that I was possibly looking at the bone or something. Apparently the clot can look like that or even more yellowish and be fine - my mouth healed perfectly so it wasn't a problem.

Be careful with the salt water washes. I was too vigorous with mine and the blood clot came out and I developed dry socket. It was very painful (as you know). Did you see the blood clot washing away?

I've taken a pic. Hopefully it looks a bit like desparate's

Looks similar to mine OP.

Afternooninthepark · 30/04/2019 19:37

That’s good. Did you get an u pleasant taste and smell too?

Don't worry about it looking white/grey. Think of it like a scab that's been underwater, it's just the same. Whatever you do don't poke it or try to clean it too thoroughly, gentle mouthrinsing after eating is enough.

imnottoofussed · 30/04/2019 20:59

I had a top one out a few weeks ago and from the taste and smell was convinced that I had dry socket but no pain at all. It's healing no problem now on week 4.

Knittedfairies · 30/04/2019 21:06

Mine looked like that too; it was fine.

Afternooninthepark · 30/04/2019 21:10

Thanks all, that’s reassuring. I don’t have a lot of pain this evening it’s just this awful taste and smell. I’ve never had bad breath before and I’m embarrassed to talk to people!!
