Sertraline - how long would it take for side effects to show?

I know it can take a couple of weeks to start doing its job but what about side effects?

Started 5 days ago and have been constantly nauseous, hot and so tired i feel like I’ve hit a wall and cant move, since halfway through day 2

Trying to work out if I’m ill or these are side effects

TIA

I had side effects the next day after first taking it. They eased off after a couple of months and it's been wonderful. Definitely stick with it!

Watching with interest. Been prescribed setraline for my severe ocd and worried about taking it due to side effects

Definitely side effects. I got them the next day. Echo advice to keep at it!

Yep side effects kicked in pretty much immediately, and after a few days I did notice I was a bit calmer (I was taking it for anxiety), it’s been a real game changer for me and the side effects did subside after a month or so.

My son takes this for severe OCD and it's been fantastic with just diarrhoea /constipation as seeming mild side effects

hey
I started of with 50mg and the first day I made the mistake of taking it half way through the day! I felt HIGH there is no other way to describe it than coming up on a pill feeling.
Neausa etc lasted a couple of days but I tried to eat as normal and that made it pass really well.
I am now on 150mg , and with ever 'increase' I did not do the same mistake - I would take it right before I go to sleep - that way I avoid any unpleasant side effects, so I would advise the same to you if that's not what you already do!

Hope things settle soon x

I have been on it for a month and the nausea has got better, Im still SO tired though but i had non existent PMT (what I'm taking it for) so I'm happy and willing to stick with it for a bit longer. Hope this helps x

Thanks all.

If it helps my mood and anxiety then I’m ok with the side effects...not loving the nausea and awful taste in my mouth but its a small price to pay!

I just cant believe how tired i am! Although I’ve also done my back in and between painkillers and not sleeping g great that’s probably also not helping!

I got side effects the next day! Bleurgh! However I noticed a difference in my mood after 3 weeks like I was less bothered by things that would normally have me panicking. However I've had days where I've been really low. It takes time so stick in with it. The side effects plaqued me for 6 weeks

I was prescribed fluoxetine (same class as sert) the last time I was depressed after many years of being off and on citalopram, which I found worked for me with only weird dreams as a side effect. After three moths of side effects on Fluoxetine I finally told the Dr I'd had enough and was coming off them as they were making me feel even worse. The sickness never left and so I was losing weight as I couldn't eat, I was in a constant head fog which was impacting my work and my hair started to fall out in handfuls. Dr agreed and put me back on citalopram and I felt better within a couple of weeks. Whilst you do need to give them a while to work sometimes they may just not be right for you so don't feel you need to put up with awful side effects where there are many types out there that can be tried and could work better for you. Hope you are feeling better soon xxxx
