I know I am totally unreasonable.

just moved house, friday all our stuff arrived. not everything is unpacked or has a place yet.

my parents very kindly had the dc for a couple of weeks to get them out of the way. I very grateful.

but - they are sooo annoying. moaning about the bed (matress on the floor, waiting for new bed to be delivered), asking where stuff is (I don't know either), broke loo seat (ok, stuff happens)

Ahhh it’s rubbish when you’re stressed and annoyed about things, maybe they should have stayed somewhere nearby like a hotel Grin

DirtyNell · 30/04/2019 06:52

Who’s annoying- who is visiting you? Your kids are with your parents, are they not?

greenelephantscarf · 30/04/2019 06:55

ahh, that's better Smile

Eh?

greenelephantscarf · 30/04/2019 06:57

it's my parents who very kindly took the kids with them and are exploring the new area before school starts.

I'll be taking them out for dinner tonight.
as I said, I very grateful!
just can't deal with the moaning about things I can't change.

Catchingbentcoppers · 30/04/2019 07:04

Sorry if I'm being thick. Do you mean that your parents took the DCs for a couple of weeks but have now returned with them? So they're now staying with you in your new home?

greenelephantscarf · 30/04/2019 07:06

...and there is the mountain of laundry I can't yet deal with as machine is behaving weirdly and needs someone looking at it.

OP posts:
greenelephantscarf · 30/04/2019 07:07

yes catching exactly that

livefornaps · 30/04/2019 07:11

Maybe they just shouldn't have bothered, then!

They're old and they're only human. Why didn't you just give them your bed and you sleep on the floor? Maybe they wanted to ask you before rootling through your stuff?

I'd take my free dinner and push off home.

SO MANY people have to do moves to new places alone and put up with the chaos that is children in the midst of it.

And they're not "visitors" imposing themselves on you, by the way, they're your bloody parents doing you a massive favour! Bloody hell.

BabySoupDragon · 30/04/2019 07:16

It must be stressful but you don’t sound very grateful.

Catchingbentcoppers · 30/04/2019 07:17

I know I am totally unreasonable.

The OP knows she's being unreasonable already. To be fair, we don't actually know that her parents are old. All the mattresses may be on the floor for all we know.

greenelephantscarf · 30/04/2019 07:19

they are in my bed (well, on my mattress) the beds have not arrived yet (they knew that).

I am very grateful!
the dc had a really good time with them.

downcasteyes · 30/04/2019 07:20

I don't think you're being unreasonable. I HATE people who moan about stuff that can't be fixed, or who do nothing to help fix it. It is super annoying! When someone asks you to help like this, you shut up and help clean the house!

livefornaps · 30/04/2019 07:21

Yes okay good point but maybe she should think about what it's like to take on children who are not your own when you have been done with parenting a good while ago for two! whole! weeks!

Also if they're not old, maybe your mum is a mumsnetter and will see this.

crimsonlake · 30/04/2019 07:21

Confusing thread.

Catchingbentcoppers · 30/04/2019 07:25

Yes, they've done the OP a huge favour for sure, but perhaps they offered rather than were asked? Kind of depends on how old the children are too doesn't it, looking after a 15 and 12 year old is a lot easier than looking after a 2 and a 4 hear old IYKWIM?

Springwalk · 30/04/2019 07:34

They must be very devoted.

I would not sleep on the floor for my kids or anyone now much less in twenty years when I will be even older.

They obviously want to help you, perhaps underestimated how tiring and hard it was going to be?

Cut them some slack, heart is in the right place. Why not ask them to spend the last few nights in a hotel, so they can have a proper night's sleep?

greenelephantscarf · 30/04/2019 11:37

I moan on here so I don't moan on them Grin

FissionChips · 30/04/2019 11:48

Just take a mattress and a couple of chairs outside, they can camp on your driveway...

livefornaps · 30/04/2019 11:51

Go buy a new loo seat and cheer up! Grin

Hope the beds arrive soon. Don't have anyone else round/to stay until you've unpacked completely.

It would be one thing if they said they'd help just in the house and then they'd ended up hindering.

But they've already done their bit - a MASSIVE, two-week-long bit.

Have a nice dinner this evening.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 30/04/2019 11:55

You do realise exactly the level of responsibility it is to look after someone else's children and that they will probably be tired after two weeks of it.

I’m not surprised that they’re asking where things are. That’s what happens when things are in an unfamiliar place.

I’d never offer again.

Beachbodynowayready · 30/04/2019 11:57

Bloody hell I moved with 6 dc (with a baby in a sling) as I packed the van!!
Yabu to complain!
