Never taken the kids abroad (6 year old and 1 year old) before. But we are going to this year. I have no idea where to go and what to look for when booking?
Any recommendations?
I don't want a long flight simply because it's all new to us and a big daunting.
Fire away!

Camping in France is always good with small kids.

Somewhere not too hot because you don’t know how they’ll cope.
Somewhere with all the baby stuff provided so you don’t have to take too much.
Somewhere which has lots to do at the resort and/or coach excursions so you don’t have to hire a car or drive.
Somewhere with a separate sleeping area for the dc.
Somewhere where you’re self catered but there’s an option to eat out.

Eurocamp in France would tick all those boxes.

Mainland Spain? Easy to get flights to Alicante, some cheap hotels in nearby towns (not sure how cheap you're thinking?) lovely beaches in places like Calpe.

stucknoue · 30/04/2019 06:24

Start by looking at flights, they vary a lot in price - I've found easyJet better than Ryan air locations wise. Or drive to France, I recommend Brittany, the Vendee or Normandie

Menorca is beautiful. Cala n Porter is a nice resort with a lovely beach, restaurants and cafes etc

lovelyupnorth · 30/04/2019 06:32

Doncaster. But what do you class a cheap and cheerful.

Shouldershrugger · 30/04/2019 06:37

Try Turkey. My dh booked 5 adults and 1 child , a week inclusive in a 5 star hotel with flights for under 5k.

Balerics is comparatiely expensive for eating out, more than mainland Spain or Canaries so depends how cheap you want it.

But Menorca and Cala D'Or in Mallorca have gorgeous little cove beaches that are sheltered and slope gently into the sea so safer for little ones.

I would self cater or B&B and eat out/easy supermarket food rather than look for HB/AI as food and experience likely to be nicer and probably cheaper unless you are big eaters and drinkers, which sounds unlikely with small DC.

Try putting your requirements into the deals section of Jet2holidays. You can then filter, sort by price and see what comes up. Often cheaper than booking separately as you might get a free child place.

Northern Spain (Costa Brava or Costa Dorada) might also be a good choice - somewhere like Tossa de Mar.

lovelyupnorth · 30/04/2019 06:53

£5k cheap and cheerful.

We did two weeks in Spain in August for £1200 quid for 2 adults and 2 kids.

About to do two and a half weeks in Canada for £5k 3 adults 1 17 y/o.

Menorca is nice. Around a 2 hour flight, lovely sandy beaches, and plenty to keep children amused.
That was our first holiday after DS was born, we took him when he was 6 months old.

Fuerteventura is gorgeous especially Jandia.

Mogan in Gran Canaria is fab.

Also look at Costa Dorada - been to La Pineda lots of times. Very family friendly, safe, and affordable. Short flight to Barcelona and a 20 minute transfer.

Italian lakes?

Cheap flights to Verona or Milan, villa or mobile home, easy to eat ice cream and pizza...

AnxietyForever · 30/04/2019 08:55

Thanks all.
Budget is around 1.5k.
Will look into some of these places today.
