I had a hamper... enjoyed Neal's yard smellies, home made chocs and jam, flavoured vinegar (actually not sure which flavour!) cheese biscuits and nice cheese samples, olives.

I'd actually love a pure beauty/pampering hamper.

I did a hampter of 80 things for my mum's 80th birthday. Sounds a lot but it was quite easy - a few nice things (ear rings, favourite smellies, nice pic of the dc, some golf stuff she wanted etc) but then other cheap/fun stuff... favourite choclate bars, a bag of marbles (for when she's losing hers Grin, a lucky penny with the year of her birth on, a pack of tissues that had been printed up to look like £50 notes (but actually cost 20p), mini bottle of celebratory fizz, a couple of balloons, packet of loveheart sweets, some neurofen for the morning after, and so on.

It was all pretty well received [grin[

Thank you, I've got a few ideas but I'm not sure if she will actually like it since she always says she wants nothing whenever I ask her what she actually wants which makes things a bit difficult

What does she use/buy for herself? A bottle of her fav perfume, different part of a skin care range she likes, does she complain about her feet her hands?

Did you see the recent thread on “50 things for a 50th birthday”? Lots of 40/50 somethings saying that they’d hate it, and why.

I’d love a case of red wine though.

BarbaraofSevillle · 30/04/2019 08:10

Agree with Bike. I'm the same age as your DM and I wouldn't like a hamper of bits. It's usually just normal basic stuff dressed up in unnecessary packaging.

What I would like is a token present - nice chocs such as a couple of mini packs from Hotel Chocolat or a bottle of fizz - cava or prosecco is fine, doesn't have to be expensive. Plus lunch or dinner out or a walk and afternoon tea or fish and chips on the beach - spend quality time together.

That's what most 40/50 somethings want. We spend our lives trying to get rid of 'stuff' and the contents of most hamper type presents we can buy ourselves whenever we want to. Smile

I wouldn't mind a hamper if it contained my favourite products/stuff I would use anyway for example, favourite cleanser, shampoo/conditioner, chocolate. But, in order for them to know what my faves are, I would have to tell them!!!

Can you take a little peek in her bathroom to get an idea of what she might like?
Really good quality hand cream always goes down well IMO
I’d also do a nice magazine, posh tea or other drink she likes, posh food stuffs depending on her taste eg jam, pickles
Nice bed socks
Coffee voucher

I have read the 50 things for 50 thread and I don't want to get useless tack, she deserves better than that.

She's not into spa days and things like that. So far I've got 3 large collage canvases that spell out mum and have pictures of all of us on, perfume she really liked but thought it was too expensive to buy, her favourite chocolate and an espa gift set. She doesn't drink alcohol so that's out and I'm not sure what else to add to it that she will like.
