What do you have in your car that makes life easier?

I drive a lot for work and also have kids that do a lot of sport. Have now been told will have no office base from next week so will even be doing admin in car. What do you have in your car that makes work - transporting kids easier ?

I know I'm very much in the minority but I don't have anything in my car at all. I empty it completely (apart from the car seat) every time I come home.

isabellerossignol · 29/04/2019 09:59

Sorry, I know that doesn't answer the question!

I'm posting on the thread because I'm intrigued to see what other people keep in their cars.

sackrifice · 29/04/2019 10:02

i do all my admin at home, in my office. All my work stuff is in a rucksack which comes in with me to meetings and at the end of the day.

My car has allotment stuff in.

And a spare coat and scarf. which will be brought back in probably next week.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 29/04/2019 10:02

I keep blankets in the car for the children incase it's cold/we brake down.

thereinmadnesslies · 29/04/2019 10:06

We have a tin of cereal bars in each car, so the DC can have a snack if they are going straight to a sports club or if we have to wait around. Saves them getting hangry and it’s easier to top the tin up weekly than try to remember to pack stuff in the morning.

Like a PP, my car is bare! I love it (the first car i have truly loved!) and keep it washed and hoovered every week.

But to answer your question, I couldn't be without Bluetooth for the commute to work. I should probably also keep a travel cup in the car to avoid using non recyclable cups from McDonald's.

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 29/04/2019 10:08

I have a spare trolley token, painkillers, indigestion tablets and antihistamines, a plain black cardigan, a breakdown/jump leads/spare tyre/jack kit, a mount and charger for my phone, small top ups of oil, antifreeze and washer fluid. Plus a paper map book as failsafe.

Gamble66 · 29/04/2019 10:10

I'd love to do admin at home but most of mine has to be filed to a deadline. Going to buy a travel mug now !

In the boot I have a couple of blankets, mine and the kids wellies, a travel potty with bags (these double as sick bags for travel sick DS1), a tin of emergency snacks and water, wet wipes, a box of tissues and an umbrella. I like to be prepared for anything!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 29/04/2019 10:17

Cereal bars, tampax, sunglasses, tissues, water, blanket, coins for parking, umbrella, emergency £20. Swiss Army knife on my key ring.

DH has all the above plus pain killers, gaviscon and spare socks.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 29/04/2019 10:18

Oh and bags for life!

keepingbees · 29/04/2019 10:19

Probably no use to you with work, but I keep a blanket, pack of tissues, trolley coin, reusable shopping bag, and small anti bac hand gel in mine. I think that's about it.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 29/04/2019 10:19

Like a PP, I try and keep mine as clear as possible. For some reason, getting into a messy or cluttered car really stresses me out.

I have a phone holder thingy stuck on my windscreen which I use when I'm using my phone for Google Maps (I do have built in Sat Nav but I prefer Google Maps)

I keep a spare change of clothes (just shorts and a tshirt) in my glove box for DS1 who is only fairly recently potty trained.

I also keep a fold up windscreen sun shade thingy tucked into the back pocket of the drivers seat (I live in the Middle East - maybe not so relevant in the UK!)

Also spare batteries for the headphones that go with the TV screen in the back of the car (Peppa Pig has saved me on many a long car journey)

In centre console, I like to keep hairbrush, chewing gum and ALWAYS a USB iPhone charger.

SisterFarAway · 29/04/2019 10:32

I don't have a car anymore as I live in London, but when I still lived in Germany a car was a necessity.
I always had Euro coins in the glove compartment, an umbrella, a snow brush and an ice scraper for every seat. I mean, why should I be the only one scraping, right?
In the summer I quite often had a spare pair of "proper" shoes in the car as I don't like driving in sandals.
The other thing I tried to keep in the car was shopping bags.

AlphaJura · 30/04/2019 16:46

Jump leads in the boot. Car charger and 'car sweets' and gum. Usually some spare coats and jumpers. Baby changing bag and buggy.

Magmatic80 · 30/04/2019 16:53

Spray bottle of of windscreen wash. Instant defrost by spraying. I don’t understand why everyone doesn’t do this, and instead leave engine running for15 minutes...
In glove box: tissues, sat nav for if newfangled phone CarPlay thing loses internet, sweets, little bag for rubbishz hair elastic. Sunglasses.
Boot: blanket, eleventy billion bags for life. Golfing umbrella, scraper thing that never gets used (see spray bottle), road map of gb.

Lanaa · 30/04/2019 17:03

Sunglasses, snacks, bottled water, hand cream, umbrella, spray spf, hair brush, make up kit, perfume, deodorant and baby wipes, coat, spare outfit and undies and a pair of flat shoes. These are all kept in a basket in the boot. There is also a basket of safety stuff like jump leads, stuff to fill a punctured tyre etc. I like to be prepared!

jellycatspyjamas · 30/04/2019 17:10

I keep tissues, tampons, gum, cereal bars, water, pen, spare coins and a first aid kit. There’s always a blanket, spare jacket and walking shoes in the boot. I keep a grab bag in the hall cupboard with spare clothes and snacks for the kids along with a towel if we’re going to the beach.

In winter I add a flask of tea, a spade and a proper blanket in case I get stuck in bad weather.

At any given time there also likeky to be a selection of plastic toys and crayons.
