Strangest thing you've seen listed on eBay?

While bidding on a couple of things on Ebay I clicked on 'sellers other items' well.... it seems I am missing out in making a small fortune. I admit not the strangest things in the world but confusing!

Empties - mostly Moltin brown bottles etc but why? Why would you buy this?!

Clothes tags, as in the label that you normally rip off and stick in the bin. Again mostly designer but my I genuinely don't get it. Scamming purposes maybe?

Just wondering what other oddities people have found for sale?

Usually the really randoms are 'codes' for either 'services' or pornographic material. There was once a rather enlightening thread where someone had found a bloke selling things you'd absolutely not buy- carpet fluff, hideous manky shoes, pen lids etc. It turns out (a mumsnetter bid £1000 for one of his items to test it out!) that it was some sort of sexual service thing. Another mumsnetter messaged the seller, thread was pulled, listing was pulled.

Scandalous, it was.

@NottonightJosepheen I think that falls into the creepy used category! My friend saw underwear modelled and a description saying 'laundered if requested' Envy not envy

This discovery made me feel a bit sad. Used greetings cards with personal messages. Who is selling these? Why would you buy them?!

I think I need an eBay break Blush

I thought that pen lid thread ended up being about upping positive feedback?

OldAndWornOut · 28/04/2019 18:32

A fart in a jar.

Craftycorvid · 28/04/2019 18:34

Several - all involving knitwear, strangely! So, gigantic knitted fluffy items modelled by diminutive woman and, ahem, clearly for those with certain niche ‘interests’ and I don’t mean the finer points of fair isle. For months on end there was a jumper for sale modelled by a very angry-looking lady apparently standing in the middle of some post-apocalyptic landscape (mud, a stunted tree) with her arms folded in a defiant sort of ‘buy my jumper, you bastards!’ stance. Strangely, no one did buy her jumper as she kept popping up from time to time with the same photo....

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/04/2019 18:34

Tink must have been a different one, this one went on for ages and got pulled rather dramatically.

To be fair op, I buy used postcards as I collect vintage postcards of all the places I've been, and I specifically choose ones with messages if I can. It appeals to my nosy nature I think! You do wonder though, when people have 10,000 postcards on their listings, who is ever going to buy enough of them for that to be worthwhile?!

I do remember the mumsnet bidder but must’ve missed the sex bit. It was a great thread!

I think that it was The News Quiz that said that a T-Rex fossil was listed (price was £1m+).

rockingthelook · 28/04/2019 18:51

people buy empty containers, Pandora boxes and gift bags, designer paper bags, packaging , labels etc so they can defraud unsuspecting buyers into buying fake items, they put fake stuff into original packaging so people think they are buying genuine goods. Molton Brown bottles are bought by people who don't want to pay for the real thing so are topped up with cheap hand wash/shower gel etc so they can show off to house guests that they use this in their homes.
There's a lady with a very large bust who is photographed wearing cheap satin blouses, top buttons undone , then the worn item is sold to pervs for a cheap (or not so cheap) thrill

MyGastIsFlabbered · 28/04/2019 18:55

I'd love to see angry jumper lady!

bewaretheidesofmarch · 28/04/2019 19:04

I accidentally stumbled into the world of 'sissy' dresses when looking for frilly ankle socks for my granddaughter for a school musical. Fat middle aged blokes dressed up as little girls. Vomit inducing Envy

bewaretheidesofmarch · 28/04/2019 19:08

Yuk!

A crocheted boob that was meant to be for bf (breastfeeding not boyfriend) training and a topless pencil drawing of Dot Cotton/Branning.

Jellyfloodagain · 28/04/2019 19:10

Can anyone remember the Christmas centre piece that was posted on here. It was handmade and massive?

Squiff70 · 28/04/2019 19:15

Donkeys years ago I sold a half-eaten Jaffa Cake as a charity auction. Can't remember how much it sold for but it did sell.

FiremanKing · 28/04/2019 19:18

E.T’s face in a conker!

Bought by Sian who at the time was the UK world record holder for having watched the film E.T the most times and having a collection of E.T memorabilia.

FreezerBird · 28/04/2019 19:33

A friend of mine listed his dignity once. It was ages ago, I can't remember what happened...

RictusGin · 28/04/2019 19:45

A pair of leather assless chaps. I bought some furniture off this guy and checked out his other items in case there was something else that would fit in the van Confused

VeniVidiViciTwice · 28/04/2019 19:57

Used air hostess shoes - popped up in the recommended for you section. Dd has been looking up shoes (weird gothy platform things) can only assume that is why my eyes are being assaulted by some of the photos...
