family city break recommendations

Any recommendations for city breaks for a family (one 9 year old).

Not London/Edinburgh/Manchester/Liverpool. Just looking at premier inns and wondering where to visit next.

Bath or Chester

georgedawes · 28/04/2019 14:57

Not been to Bath in years, loved it when I went pre-kids though. Are there many things for DD to do?

Chester is great but doable as a day trip for us so probably wouldn't stay over.

York. Lots to do and great Premier inns

Hermagsjesty · 28/04/2019 15:00

I’d second York.

Oxford , Cambridge or Exeter . Plenty for all ages and if you do Oxford you could also take in Blenheim .

LIZS · 28/04/2019 15:02

How old is dc? There are museums, tearooms, parks, river etc. in Bath

georgedawes · 28/04/2019 15:03

York is a good idea, not too much travel either but enough to feel like a break.

Newcastle, loads to do, and you could even fit in a trip to the coast as well.

Glasgow.

Great free museums.

There is a large techniquest type place which the kids love.

Good shops.

Plenty of restaurants.

Some of the friendliest people I have me. Really welcoming.

Glasgow. We spent a week there with my DS last summer and there's loads to do , museums, art, gardens, science centre, shops. It's also really easy to get about, we went to Loch Lomond on the train and it didn't take long at all. We stayed in a Premier Inn for the whole week.

georgedawes · 28/04/2019 15:18

Adding these to my lists to research!

I love Glasgow, will definitely add it to the list. We normally just stop for a night on our way north, but there is so much to do I know.

Glasgow as above.

Dundee - V and A, The Discovery, Centre for Contemporary Arts, DC Thompson stuff. ??

Bristol. Great dockyard area and SS Great Britain as well as museums and the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Our son loved it when we went when he was about 9 or 10. It's also 15 minutes by train from Bath so you could go there as a day trip. Or stay in Bath and do Bristol as a day trip!

Floralnomad · 28/04/2019 15:38

Also Portsmouth.

TheweewitchRoz · 28/04/2019 15:47

Belfast

Hermagsjesty · 28/04/2019 16:27

I’d second York.

reluctantbrit · 28/04/2019 16:32

York, we spent 4 days but got a little cottage just outside the city walls. In my opinion more comfortable than a Premier Inn

MadisonAvenue · 28/04/2019 17:03

I was going to suggest York too, there's plenty there to keep all ages interested.
