Jacket potato for work

I'm thinking of making jacket potatos for work next week. Is this possible? We have access to a microwave. I was thinking of baking them at home then taking them in and microwaving them there with some cheese (any maybe beans?).

Anyone have experience with this? Cheers.

Hi

I take frozen ones to work, take 4-5 mins in microwave & come out lovely. Never tried prebaking at home & reheating - not sure if the skin would go soggy?

I do that but I don't fully cook them at home just about three quarters? Then two-three mins in the microwave at work finishes them off

Bannisters farm frozen jackets are amazing.

@LadyGloss think I'll try this.

I don't want to buy the pre baked microwave ones from the shop as I'm a cheap arse. Cheaper to prepare at home, if they turn out ok

You can just microwave them without cooking them first. The skin won't go brown and crispy but tastes fine.

OhDiddums · 28/04/2019 13:46

I used to do this. If I was having a jacket potato at home I'd do extra, wrap them in foil and re-heat the next day. They tasted absolutely fine and I'd bring whatever fillings I fancied pre-made and stuck it on top.

I used to do this regularly, I baked them myself at home and then microwaved for about 2 mins. You can also bake a few potatoes and freeze them for another time.

WorthingLass · 28/04/2019 16:49

Thanks all. Think I'll bake 4 and stick 3 in the freezer.

I do this all the time, I put them in the microwave to cook 90% and then finish off in the oven or air fryer at home to crisp up and then reheat them in the work microwave.

Aragog · 28/04/2019 16:53

Some colleagues do that. They bake them at home and cook them at school in the microwave.

Crinkle77 · 28/04/2019 16:54

Yeah you can pre cook them and reheat. You can cook them from raw in the microwave but they aren't as nice and you might piss people off in work taking up the microwave for 10 minutes when everyone is trying to get their lunch too. Unless you stick it in just before lunch time.

BoldMeDontAtMe · 28/04/2019 16:54

I did this in the winter. Microwaved at home then reheated at work with beans and cheese. Didn't think it would be fair to monopolise the microwave for long enough to cook from raw.

CottonSock · 28/04/2019 16:55

Yes. Please pre cook or buy frozen, don't be the person that hogs microwave cooking from raw!

Snowdropheaven · 28/04/2019 20:54

You can get the Heinz baked beans snap pots that just go in the microwave and then take in a pot of grated cheese. I've done this before (I did buy the McCain frozen baked potatoes - really tasty!).
