all in one UV suit for 11 year old?

I have a red haired, pale skinned 11 year old boy. When we go on holiday he always wears UV rash vests for being in the pool as he burns SO easily. He's quite long in the body so we've had issues with the vests riding up and him getting burned on his back. An all in one suit would be much better.

Anyone recommend one for this age group? Most ranges seem to favour separates for older children. We did find one in John Lewis but the design is fairly uninspiring.

I think you'd have to look for a wetsuit.

I've looked for DS (9, but wears 11) and only seen separates. Plus you'd need to size up for the body length.
What about rash vests in small adult sizes?

SpinningDizzy · 28/04/2019 09:41

Or sew a couple of poppers on to rash vest & swim shorts?

OhDearWhyAmIFatterly · 28/04/2019 09:44

Can you get him an adult one? Decathlon do a great range...
I'd struggle to get my 11 year old into an all in one to be honest.....

Thin wetsuit/coral suit. I wore one diving full length

Decathlon have a shorty all in one for kids up to 12 or adult leggings and tops

Look at online shops in Australia. Over here I’ve seen older kids (plus adults too) wear UV protected suits. They look different to wetsuits, thinner, but I’m not sure what they’re called. Sorry, quite unhelpful also as I don’t know the brand. Alternatively good idea above re sewing (with a zip or poppers) a uv shirt and longer protected shorts.

Just a tip, always make sure the back of his ears have a lot of reapplied sun cream and he wears a broad hat that covers the ears too. The nasty melanomas here seem to pop up on the back of ears at at alarming rate. Older child/teenager years especially important to be sub safe.

Good luck!

DonkeyHohtay · 28/04/2019 10:02

He's happy to wear an all in one, he is not fussy about what he wears at all and prefers not to get burned. On reflection I think that a long sleeved top and separate shorts is probably better than an all in one with short sleeves as his forearms are more likely to get burned.

Wetsuits not really any good for the Med in July - far too hot.

Sun not sub.

If I see someone wearing the suit outfit in the next wee while I’ll ask what they are and where to buy

DonkeyHohtay · 28/04/2019 10:04

He has one of the leigonnaires style caps in UV material, the one with a flap on the back. It's excellent protection for ears and the back of his neck. Not great when hurtling down flumes but fine for general beach/pool.

Fully prepared to get weird looks from southern mediterraneans for encasing my 11 year old entirely in UV protection.

Good hat.

Looks won’t kill, melanomas could.

Have a great time!

sunnyday1976 · 28/04/2019 10:09

Not what you're asking but I've a very tall, fair skinned boy and we've found boden rash vests in a larger boys size have always been long enough.

WrongKindOfFace · 28/04/2019 10:20

M&S do one in plain black. Which is not only uninspiring but the poor boy will be roasting.

I agree probably easier to add a popper or a bit of Velcro to separates.

Troels · 28/04/2019 10:29

Have a look on LandsEnd they do all sorts of UV protection the womens are pretty slim fit and if you contact them they will tell you the actual size from underarm to the bottom of the hem. you can get 40% off first order at the moment too.

Troels · 28/04/2019 10:31

And look in their sale section too, I've found what I need there from last seasons styles. They have boys, girls and mens too.

3in4years · 28/04/2019 10:38

Rash vest.

DonkeyHohtay · 28/04/2019 10:40

The stingray one looks fab - long sleeves are more important than an all in one design, I think. We've had really good vests in the past from Fat Face but they only have one design this year and it's very meh.

We buy rash vest from next as seem to be long and thin in style (like my ds is!!!)

Then tuck it into his shorts and tie them up tight!

He's 14 / 5"8 now and we've been doing it since he was 8!

Sunshinegirl82 · 28/04/2019 10:46

Not super exciting but seems to fit the bill?

Sunshinegirl82 · 28/04/2019 10:48

They also do them for adults so should keep him going for a while!

We're a fair skinned freckly family and along with uv protective swimwear we found a sunscreen that works without feeling like you're smothered in grease. It's a Lidle brand, Cien factor 50 spray for kids. Used it in Croatia last year and nobody burnt.

SnagAndChips · 29/04/2019 00:28

Aussies call the thing you are looking for ' stinger suits'- they are sort of rash vest material but cut like a wet suit.
(stops you being stung by irikanji)

Flobalob · 29/04/2019 00:53

We've got an age 13-14 one from M and S last year.
