Help! Can a corn really be so painful?

Or is it something else? It's on the outside if my foot and it throbs all the time. Even when lying down.
I can't walk and even brushing it lightly with my fingers is agony so no question of using a pumice stone!!
A nurse told me she thought it was a corn.
Anyone else had this??

Gout can feel like a broken toe , it is that painful and can be a very sudden onset .
But it is usually in the joints (especially the 1st toe ) though can occur anywhere .

Is there a solid thickening of skin?
Are there tiny blood vessels ?
Wet the skin for a better view . Do the tiny lines of the skin run through it or are they pushed aside?

It could also be a foreign body , possibly resulting in a localised but deep infection.

Chilblain is a possibility , I have seen some really bad ones this year but mainly patients who get them every year (and I do start advicing them in Sept , they are all Meh weather is nice ......until the cold snap)
Patients who have a history of micro circulatory problems or patients from warmer climates in their first UK winter

Don;t use any acid based products , you;ll have a mess of mascerated skin.
You can try warm salt water footbaths (soothing and can draw things to the surface and antiseptic)
Put a ring of felt round to keep the pressure off

Get thee to a Podiatrist .
Think back to when you felt the pain first . What relieves it. What worsens it . Check ALL your shoes, slippers, socks for holes and seams .

Thank you all! Hopefully chiropodist will see me tomorrow and all will be revealed. Trying not to think about sharp blades going anywhere near it!
Doesn't look like chillblains ( googled it) so corn most likely candidate.
No photos sorry, way too embarassing!!

Thank you 70sISA very helpful info. I do have varicose veins but don't know if that counts as micro circulatory issues.
Will stay away from medicated plasters until tomorrow.
When it started I though I had a blister, it quickly got worse from there

I had a painful corn on a toe once. The chiropodist who removed it said it was probably on a nerve. Was bliss once it was removed!

I use a scholl liquid pen that after about 3 days just let's me pick the corn core out and I set about the surrounding crater skin with a file. I get repeat ones due to unfortunately mammoth wide feet (and I wear trainers for work! 😑).

Did you manage to see chiropodist? X
