Do threadworms cause pain?

mary91 · 27/04/2019 21:38

My dd has threadworms and is crying saying her bottom hurts. She says it's not itching but sharp stabbing pains.

I always thought threadworms caused itching not pain.

It can feel like it hurts, sometimes the itching is so intense it can feel like a sharp pain.

Have you treated the worms? Wash her bottom now, it's the glue the worms use to attach the eggs that causes the most itching.

Sudocrem helps too. Ovex tomorrow. Plus sheets in a hot wash.

MoniqueTonique · 27/04/2019 21:43

Yes I remember when my DS had threadworms he cried saying his bottom hurt. It only lasted a couple of nights, once he was treated he didn't have any pain.

When they are tired I think it feels a lot worse too. My DS has a bad case recently, luckily we had over left over from DD’s bout of them. Do you have any?

mary91 · 27/04/2019 21:45

How long does the ovex take to start working ?

I don't have any sudocream, will get some tomorrow. Will Vaseline be any help?

Thanks for the tips.

*ovex

dementedpixie · 27/04/2019 21:46

Ovex takes a few days to work

gamerchick · 27/04/2019 21:47

Vaseline will work. It takes a few days for it to work, it basically makes them starve to death. Make sure you treat the whole family and again in 2 weeks to catch the hatchlings. Damp dust all door handles etc to pick up stray eggs.

HappyMisfit · 27/04/2019 21:48

You and anyone in the household should take ovex as a precaution. You can buy family packs

mary91 · 27/04/2019 21:53

Ok thanks everyone.

Bloody horrible little things! Poor dd seems in so much pain.

How does Vaseline starve them to death?

gamerchick · 27/04/2019 21:57

It doesn't

mary91 · 27/04/2019 21:58

@Goposie I think it's the ovex that starves them.

OP posts:
gamerchick · 27/04/2019 21:59

Heh I see it. Sorry I was answering 2 questions there.

Goposie · 27/04/2019 22:02

Ah... for a minute there I was excited about a cheaper option than ovex!

gamerchick · 27/04/2019 22:03

I hear that man. It's not cheap stuff.

mary91 · 27/04/2019 22:04

I will ask this question to the pharmacist tomorrow, but does anyone know if I buy the ovex and have leftover doses, can I save them for another time? Or will it expire?

OP posts:
DustyDustyKeyboard · 27/04/2019 22:09

We're trying garlic supplements inbetween ovex treatments as well. I read it might help, and it can't hurt!

MaHeidsGouping · 27/04/2019 22:09

I always keep a bottle in the cupboard along with nit shampoo, I've just read the bottle and all it says about expiry is Oct 20. It doesn't say bin after 4 weeks once opened etc.

tilder · 27/04/2019 22:10

It's expensive and tastes foul. I buy enough for 2 doses each, so dose us all again after 2 weeks. Plus I keep tablets in the cupboard in case.

Hope all sorted soon. It's horrible. School never mentions worms, but I would not be surprised if it is as common as nits.

gamerchick · 27/04/2019 22:17

always keep a bottle in the cupboard along with nit shampoo

I do the same. Grin
