Is this type of diabetes test accurate?

I was in a shopping centre today and a charity were doing a diabetes awareness campaign with a local pharmacy.
DH and i decided to do it. It was a simple finger prick test administered by a nurse.
Surprisingly we got almost identical results despite the fact that DH is very fit and healthy and i am quite overweight.
The nurse said our results were fine.
I'm just wondering if anyone knows about this type of test (non-fasting) and if it is accurate. There wasn't time to ask questions.
Thanks.

Yes they should be both similar what were they?

Not totally accurate no. But it is only testing for too high blood sugar which can mean you may have undiagnosed diabetes. Plenty of fat and unfit people do not have diabetes

this sounds like a standard finger prick test that nurses do all the time in hospitals, a fasting would probably only be done if there was a suspicion that someone was diabetic or was diabetic. what were your results.

Did the nurse ask when you had last eaten?

The options on my machine were

  • fasting
  • before meal
  • after meal

And there are different parameters for each.

So 6.9 would have been a high fasting reading but fine for before or after meal readings.

It was 90 mins - to 2 hours after breakfast. She didn't ask til after she did the test. DH was 7.2 and I was 7.3.
