...nostalgia o'clock Smile
Oooh the times I dialled 123 for the speaking clock. And stayed up late to hear what happened when the clocks changed.
Anyone else remember and used to enjoy it?

Yeah, and before that the female speaking clock.

My sister and I used to dial the speaking clock at mid night on Christmas Day (thorough in to Boxing Day) just so we could say, 'I can't wait for Christmas !'

It took me a while to connect what, 'at the third stroke' and the three beeps actually meant. I'm that thick !

It's the stuff of situation comedies and pranks to leave the phone receiving the speaking clock when some one has gone on holiday just to run up the phone bill.

(The saddest recorded announcement history I heard was about the, 'mind the gap' announcement on London Underground stations. The announcer died but his widow would sometimes come to the underground stations to hear her husband's voice again.)

I remember it when the number was 8081!

PlatinumBrunette · 27/04/2019 15:15

How sad is it that I remember that number but have no clue what my current number is?

I remember when you dialled TIM for the speaking clock, I think that was in major cities.
