Has anyone's child had their ears pierced at Claire's recently?

12yo DD wanting hers done in the summer before starting secondary school. She's insisting on it being in Claire's as it's her favourite shop ever Hmm so we're not looking for recommendations on other places (I've already tried to persuade her for weeks as I've heard mixed reviews of Claire's).

I'm trying to get an idea of price and what's actually included. Their website currently has an offer of free piercing when you buy a starter kit but the earrings are expensive! Around £50.

I remember paying about £10 for mine years and years ago.

So, if we just want piercing and cheap, basic studs - how much would this be? Thanks.

I'm sorry but Claires is not somewhere I'd take my daughter to be pierced. I'd tell her you'll take her somewhere professional or she won't have it done. Much better to have it done by experts in an actual piercing shop. She's 12, you're the adult.

64sNewName · 27/04/2019 13:16

Just ring them? Not being horrible but surely that’s quicker than posting here on the off chance Confused

Prequelle · 27/04/2019 13:17

Please don't.

All piercings should be done with a needle by professionals, not sales assistants with guns.

Guns are IMPOSSIBLE to decontaminate properly and cause surrounding trauma to soft tissues

Piercing shops may also work out cheaper too with better materials. Good luck!

(And I agree, DD loves Claire’s but we have already discussed that if/when she gets any piercings she must go somewhere better and safer. Stand firm - you can always take her to Claire’s as a treat afterwards)

booksandcaffeine · 27/04/2019 13:17

Take her to a piercing studio, they don't use the guns there so the piercings heal a lot better. Although I'd check on the age limit.

StormcloakNord · 27/04/2019 13:18

Dont take her to Claire's christ.
They use guns and they're horrendous, tell her she gets it done at a proper piercing salon or she doesn't get her ears pierced.

Shes 12 years old, she doesnt call the shots.

Fucking Claire's why do people still even entertain the idea of letting their kids get pierced there?!

Littleduckeggblue · 27/04/2019 13:18

I think there's 4 styles that are £15 for the earrings. I read this last week when reading an article about someone that was furious at paying £65

Wonkydonkey44 · 27/04/2019 13:18

Don’t use Claire’s please go to a proper body piercer and get them done properly.

MustardScreams · 27/04/2019 13:18

Ear piercing would be on the condition that she had it done by a professional piercer and with a needle. Claire’s is not the place for putting holes in your kids.

StormcloakNord · 27/04/2019 13:19

Although we all know fine well, as all these threads go, OP won't listen and will just take her kid to Claire's anyway cause it's cheap and accessible.

I despair.

GlossyTaco · 27/04/2019 13:20

I paid £25 for dd last year , that was with their cleaning solution , the cheapest earrings they sold and , of course , the piercing process.

They sell some ridiculously expensive earrings (they show your child a board with all studs , no prices on there) so just ask for the cheapest set.

Hanumantelpiece · 27/04/2019 13:23

I took DC to a local piercing salon recently to discuss piercing. School rules are no earrings for PE so was thinking that over the holidays would be ok.
Spoke at length to the piercer who did that it would be fine with a needle, and explained why the guns they use in Clare's are so bad. She also said that it takes far linnet than 6 weeks due the tissue to properly heal, and removing piercings after five or six weeks means the wounds can become damaged/infected. She advises 10 weeks to heal properly.
So rest piercing is not going to happen.
If we had been allowed to tape over the piercing then I would have booked it up.

M0reGinPlease · 27/04/2019 13:27

Do you want your child's ears pierced cheaply or properly? Fgs, what little value you are placing on her body to even consider allowing her to have this done by a sales assistant in an overpriced accessories shop.

AnnaFender · 27/04/2019 13:30

We went to Claire's last summer with DD1. I have many piercings myself and wanted a professional piercing studio to do it but I rang/messaged at least 10 different places near me and none offered to under 14s (or didn't have a resident piercer in). So I gave in. I was more annoyed by the hard upsell tbh, it'll cost at least £50 because if you try and choose any of the cheaper styles they'll give you several speeches implying that your child's ears will rot and drop off of you don't pierce with gold Confused

I didn't love the experience but my DD didn't want to wait another 4 years. They healed fine and quickly and DD was/is happy.

Doorysf · 27/04/2019 13:33

Hell no to Claire's. They do it in the shop window by us for all to see. There's always a poor child being pinned down screaming while all the passers by gather round to watch. Utterly hideous.

Take to a decent place fgs! You're the adult. You call the shots.

ALemonyPea · 27/04/2019 13:36

I wouldn't trust Claire's to pierce the film on a ready meal let alone a child's ears.

Go to a reputable piercing clinic or tattoo parlour where they have proper training for piercing.

BettysLeftTentacle · 27/04/2019 13:39

You’re the parent OP, tell her she can have her eats pierced as long as she goes to a reputable body piercer to have it done and tell her why. If she doesn’t like your condition, she doesn’t have to get it done.

I wouldn’t take my girls anywhere near a sales assistant with a piercing gun.

Juicyfrooty · 27/04/2019 13:43

We followed all the advice and went to a reputable piercing studio, dd's were pierced with a needle and she still had endless problems with them not healing.

After a year we gave up and took them out.

IHeartKingThistle · 27/04/2019 13:51

DD had hers done at Claire's last summer. She was 11.

Guess what? NOTHING BAD HAPPENED.

BlondeBumshelll · 27/04/2019 14:00

Had DD's done at Claire's last year, absolutely no problems with them healing at all.

I wonder how many people posting negatively on this thread have had a bad experience with Claire's and how many just like to say how terrible it is and how terrible parents who let their kids get pierced there are.

cricketmum84 · 27/04/2019 14:01

Echoing all the previous posters here. You are the responsible adult and if she wants them piercing then it should be you taking the decision on where to have them done. And that should be a professional piercing studio not a cheap jewellery shop.

My daughters favourite food is chocolate but she doesn't eat it for breakfast because I'm a responsible adult who gives her toast or cereal instead.

By all means let her choose some earrings from Claire's for once they have healed but in the name of all that is holy do not let a teenage sales assistant put holes in your child with a manky gun.

ColdCottage · 27/04/2019 14:03

Perhaps she could choose a pair of earrings from Claire to take to the proper place?

RoseAndRose · 27/04/2019 14:05

Don't bother with the 'faster healing' cleaning fluid. The rate of healing is determined by the body, not what you wipe on it.

But it'll certainly keep the germs down the n the area - the label lists it as hypochlorite - which means it's an expensive way to buy pre-diluted Milton Fluid

Prequelle · 27/04/2019 14:05

There's always someone 'WELL MY CHILD WAS FINE

Oookaaaay, lots of people manage to come away unscathed doing things they're not supposed to, like not wearing seatbelts. Doesn't mean it's fine to do.

FixTheBone · 27/04/2019 14:07

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

Until you've exhausted yourself for 40 minutes trying to resuscitate a child who has died from streptococcal septicaemia from a piercing, with mum shrieking and wailing on the floor behind you, I don't think you properly understand the risks of a completely unnecessary cosmetic procedure.
