Does anyone have DC who smoke?

Just that really. My 19yo DS does and I can't bear that he's doing it. He doesn't in the house as I don't allow it.

I know he's an adult and there's naff all I can do but it upsets me so much. Anyone else?

My Ds does too, not nice but his decision so I don't mention it

insancerre · 27/04/2019 12:29

Dd does
I hate that she does it but she’s 22 and her choice to make

ShabbyAbby · 27/04/2019 12:31

There are much worse things and hopefully he'll give up soon. Nothing you can do, though.

Older ds's do. Went to see ds 24 last night, popped back to the car for some Fabreze! Older dd told him he needs to stop coz his house smells - just off his coat, he doesn't smoke inside.
Yuck.

There are much worse things

Indeed. However 'there are worse things' is a ridiculous response to any given situation. Judge each situation on its own merit (or lack of) not based on something totally unrelated.

My dd 22 does very occasionally. She knows I passionately hate smoking. She would never smoke when she visits me, not even outside. Hopefully she will realise that it is a filthy habit .

StillMedusa · 27/04/2019 12:40

Two of mine do .
I hate it (and they have to go away from the house) but I expect they will give up sooner or later and one is off to Australia soon and I'd still rather he was here, smoke and all!

Sparklingbrook · 27/04/2019 12:42

I am glad both of mine don't.

We lost FIL to lung cancer and they have always been very anti smoking. Plus it's a very expensive anti social habit.

Birdie6 · 27/04/2019 12:42

Yes, my DS smokes. Nothing I can do - he is a man and makes his own decisions.

englishdictionary · 27/04/2019 12:47

It's was he late 1940's when they started looking into the link with cancer. 50's it was explored and by the 1960's it was know, the knowledge was spread and now 50 years on with all the studies done and information available it completely baffles me how anyone takes up smoking. It really is just a bizarre thing to do, knowing it could kill you.

None of my DC smoke but I won't lie I would be horrified if they started.

Hexagonwitch · 27/04/2019 12:50

I know. Its awful. Nothing I can do though.
I've never smoked and nor do any of my family.
