How can I feel warm?

I am Always so cold unless I’m in my housecoat under a blanket. Having two young kids I am forced outside to parks and walks almost daily. I am sick of being miserable as I’m freezing.

Any tips or secrets to warm up.

I’ve bought thermals (which haven’t helped). I also bought “the warmest coat” and still feel bloody cold (it’s north face artic) but I feel ridiculous wearing it now that spring has began.

I sometimes take a flask of tea. Anything else?

Gloves and hat- you lose loads of heat through your extremities.

kayakingmum · 25/04/2019 22:23

Plus - I'm a bit nervous to suggest it - but if you're skinny you could put on a bit of natural insulation.

I do wear gloves and hats in the winter but in summer and spring I just look ridiculous. Unless it’s above 20 odd degrees then I can’t warm up.

Where the heck do you live?

I moved to Cyprus 15 years ago because I hated the cold, do you want to join me?

flamed12 · 25/04/2019 22:24

Haha I could do with adding a few pounds maybe...

Being cold all the time is one of the signs of an under active thyroid. Maybe get a blood test to check? ( I only know this as I’ve recently been diagnosed with this and I had no idea why this is why I was always cold! )

3littlemonkeys82 · 25/04/2019 22:27

Have you had your bloods checked? I have a underactive thyroid and am perpetually cold unless my thyroxine levels are corrected. Just a thought.

3littlemonkeys82 · 25/04/2019 22:27

Cross post.

ChorleyFMcominginyourears · 25/04/2019 22:28

To be fair I'm fat and cold all the time apart from in the middle of summer lol. As above though I have an underactive thyroid which I don't think helps me!

Haha yes it was!

Aside from getting checked out by a gp, I find that a scarf always makes me warmer. In the spring and summer, you can get lightweight ones, not woolly ones. Get them in light colours and wear them so they cover any bare skin between your top and face.

Also, shoes...trainers keep my feet warm, and wear them with socks so no gaps between ankles and trainers.

A lightweight down jacket might be useful?

Also, you can get hand warmer things that stay warm for hours.,. Take some of those out with you to keep your hands warm.

Being cold is miserable.

flapjackfairy · 25/04/2019 22:37

I wear 2 pairs of thermal socks ( one knee length ) and gloves all year round. I swear I am the world's coldest person.
Layers , layers and more layers is the way to go. I really don't care how daft I look anymore I just want to be warm .

GeorgeTheBleeder · 25/04/2019 22:42

My first thought was - anaemia. Unless that possibility has already been eliminated I would suggest you get yourself checked for this as well.

It is really miserable feeling cold all the time.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 25/04/2019 22:42

You can buy a hottie gel pack on amazon that comes with it's own back wrap. It stays warm longer than a hot water bottle and just needs microwaving for a couple of minutes to heat it.
The wrap is designed for back ache I think, but it's fab for wearing under your coat where it can't be seen.

SeaToSki · 25/04/2019 22:42

As well as getting your thyroid levels checked google Raynaud disease. It's most common symptom is perpetually cold extremities

flamed12 · 25/04/2019 23:02

I’m pretty sure I’ve had my thyroid checked but possibly not in the last couple of years. Same with my blood count. I think I might arrange a blood test to check. I don’t seem to have any of the other symptoms which go alone with these conditions however.

Typically my OH is constantly warm. Our arguments 90% of the time centre on the temperature of our house/windows open/fans on. But I can cope in the house with blankets and house coats.

It’s just when I go out I struggle. Today I had thick socks, boots, jeans, thermal vest, t shirt, thin jumper and my artic coat and I was still freezing. I’m in Scotland and it was 12 degrees (possibly more).

I see other people in T-shirt’s and they genuinely look at my as though I’m strange. I eventually put my hood up and counted the minutes til it was acceptable to get back into the car (we were at the park).

Thanks for the suggestions I will definitely look up the suggestions. Is there any vitamins/herbal medication to help heat up?

Cashmere is warmer and thinner than almost anything else. I like it for being warm without looking like I’m trying.
